Unpacked a new Chromebook before Christmas and immediately got messages about security certificates being expired for Google webpages I was trying to access - presumably due to my computer date/time settings being off (year 2149??). Although I've been the only one ever using my Google account, I don't seem to have Admin privileges to reset the clock in the Settings section.
I've logged in as a Guest but never gotten to the Sign In page.
After putting in my wireless network info, now when I reboot, the Chromebook opens to a screen telling me I'm off-line, then automatically acquires the wi-fi signal that I designed and takes me to a blank page where it stops. When I cancel out the blank page, I again am reminded that my Chromebook is in year 2149.

I would like to know how many user accounts do you have on your Chromebook and do you have import files on this computer?
I have never used Google computer products before so I should only have one account - I started to sign up for Gmail on my first iphone but don't believe I used it.
I don't have any import files on the Chromebook. This is a case of a non-functioning product that couldn't get to Step 2 of the Start up procedure when I took it out of the box.
Please follow the steps below.
Download the recovery image tool from Google’s server, to your desktop (or somewhere easily accessible).

Recovering a ChromeBook:
After a recovery disk has been created, and your chromebook is displaying this screen:
Proceed with the recovery by plugging in the USB/SD card with the recovery image that you just created. The chromebook will take over from there. The chromebook will let you know when the recovery is complete and then you will need to remove the USB/SD card. After they (USB or SD card) are removed, the chrome device will restart and you will be guided through the initial setup again. Recovery is now complete, enjoy your chromebook!

I turned the Chromebook showing the recovery screen off and back on again.
Wasn't able to reach the sign in screen or change the year on the time/date screen. Time zone is frozen but the "Use 24hr clock" box can be checked and unchecked as before but no improvement.
Were you able to recover the system to factory state?
