I have an apple MacBook pro, s/n C02LV5DCFGYY. I have four keys that do not work (s,w,2,F2). I would like to purchase a replacement keyboard on ebay and replace it. What is the part number for the keyboard? What is the part number for top frame which contains the keyboard and mouse pad? Any suggestions?

Here's what I have tried so far:
Nothing. The problem has existed for several months. Apple service center estimated up to $800 to repair. I have gone on ebay and believe I can purchase the keyboard (if I have correct part number) and their are on-line video instructions that detail the replacement.

Here's my brand/make/model:
Apple Mac Book Pro, s/n C02LV5DCFGYY, Model A1502 assembled in China

Good Morning, Randy!

I am showing your Mac is a late 2013 model. Did you buy it secondhand, or did you buy it directly from Apple?

When you bought your laptop, did you have the option to purchase Applecare?

I used "macbook pro retina keyboard 2013" to search in eBay and a good number of keyboard choices came up.

Let's discuss the 4 keys that are not working, since they are kind of in line with each other. Was it always that way when you bought it, or do you remember an incident that caused the keys to not work?

The MacBook was purchased in late 2013 as a Christmas gift for my daughter. It worked fine until about two months ago when my daughter left a window open and some rain water got on to the keyboard. We responded the next morning by turning the computer off, turning the keyboard up-side-down and let a fan blow on it for a couple of days. The 4 keys remained not working, but everything else works fine.

Yes we purchased it direct from Apple. We did not purchase AppleCare.

Randy,

Ah! I love family reunions! Family is a very important part in my life. Hope it went well!

Another lesson learned - I know it may be expensive, but I strongly recommend you purchase Applecare WHEN you buy the Mac. It would save you so much trouble in the long run. Believe me, Ive had my troubles, and Applecare almost saved my butt every time. It is worth it in the long run. Since some water got on your keyboard, I am believing that it could go either way - Applecare could cover that, or not.

But I digress. What you need is the part numbers. The 661-4943 is the non-backlit version and the 661-4944 has backlit keys.

Hope this steer you in the right direction.

What would the part number be if I decide to only change out the keyboard (or how can I quarry ebay for the keyboard only). The keyboard is less expensive than the keyboard/top case.

If I could find a keyboard/top case for around $100, I would replace top case/keyboard.

You would need to replace the keyboard/top case. The keyboard is riveted to the top case itself. You need to be an expert to be able to remove the keyboard and leave the top case intact. But I'm afraid, doing so might void the manufacturer's warranty.

Ive checked other sites, and most recommend replacing both the keyboard and top case.

According to on-line videos, the keyboard is secured by 50++ screws. The sites do confirm your statement that it is difficult to replace the keyboard, but it is doable. Since I like a challenge, I am going to order a keyboard, and give it a try. If I can't get it off safely, I will return the keyboard for a top case with the keyboard already installed.

Is a MacBook Pro 13" A1502 2013 2014 Retina keyboard the correct replacement? (It is item number ***-***-**** 37 on ebay.)

Will Keyboard MPB A1278 2009-2010 also work?

If both will work, what is the difference between these?

It would appear to be the correct keyboard.

the MPB A1278 2009-2010 will not work since its not designed for the Retina keyboard.
