Parts to be replaced

1. Overhauling gaskets (set of gaskets to be used in the engine)

2. Piston rings

3. Pistons (if the old one is deformed)

4. Piston liner (if the engine block has severe damage because of overheating)

5. Valves and valve guides

6. Main bearing (crank shaft)

7. Main bearing caps

8. Rod bearing and caps

Note: Replacements and settings should be done by a machine shop.

Please give me a moment while I check for a part store. Thank you

Thanks. I understand that much, however the engine has a design floor which makes it a waste of time to rebuild it to specs. I'd like expert advice on replacement engine options and where they can be sourced (guarantees and experience). I'm open to other options, eg a v8 Tdi later model engine if feasible for more torque and fuel economy. Does that Make sense?

Yes I believe that it's better to replace the engine to save you from all the trouble. Let me check the best engine swaps for you. Please give me a moment

I appreciate your quick response, but I'm looking for expert advice from someone who has a lifetime of experience in working with these engines. To suggest a Tdi 300 engine from a discovery (4 cylinder ) or td5 would not be in character for a v8 Range Rover. I can look up Google myself. I would have liked access to someone who can advise based on their experience. Sorry Relly, but you haven't given me any advice  so far that is really helpful that I don't already know

Maybe I can refer you to my fellow expert who may have work or experience on engine swap on a vehicle like yours. I will ask him to take over this question Peter.

After dealing with 5 of these in my shop, there are 2 courses of repair. Rebuild the engine and have each part checked for cracks and trueness. You will need a great machine shop to do the micro magnafluxing. Make sure to check and balance the crankshaft. If the motor is locked up, I think a factory replacement is going to be the best long term fix. This V8 comes balanced and is very difficult to partially repair.

This is the only engine I will only use factory parts on. I would say if your not highly experienced and meticulously detailed technician, I would recommend not undertaking this project. I absolutely would not use a used engine from a similar model due to the wiring harness variances. Wish I had some better news but this is the truth.

There should be several certified Range Rover repair facilities in Australia. You can contact Range Rover UK tech support and they will advise you which ones would best fit your needs and be close to you.

Thank you Kevin, seems like a job for an expert. I may have to buy a new engine from the UK or US that has had upgrades to rectify overheating issues
