Hi again try these steps:

  1. Plug-in your dead Nexus 7 to a wall charger. (Jump immediately to step 2.)
  2. Immediately after plugging it in, press Volume Down and Power at the same time.

*This should get you into the bootloader menu. You may have to try this with different chargers or test out the timing in order to get it to work.

  1. Once in the bootloader menu, use Volume Down until you see “Power Off Device.”
  2. Choose that option with the Power button.
  3. Once your device is off, unplug the charger and then plug it back into the device.
  4. You should now see the battery meter (pictured above) with your device returning to life.

Let me know if this resolves the issue.

Tried that but got no response from the device. The screen remains resolutely blank. What next do you suggest?

Try to press the power button for 20 seconds. If that doesn't work, press all three buttons and hold them for 30 seconds...that should get you to the boot menu. From there follow the instructions above.

Let me know if this works.

Excellent! Pressing the power button did the trick and booted me straight into the home page. I am most impressed. You have saved my day.
