What is the answer to my question?
Is this on a black screen, or Do you still see your mouse pointer?
It is on a black screen .
Okay, Can you recall what Windows operating system it has?
Windows vista Windows 7?
I believe it is Windows 7.
Can you share what is the exact Dell computer model this is?
Inspiron 15 3000 Series
Can you try to hold the power button down to turn it OFF,
when it is completely off try turning it back on and start tapping F8 on the keyboard
Tell me if you were able to get the Windows advanced boot options
I did.
ok I did that and the same thing came up==Error loading operating system_
Ok try the reset again.
Power off the computer turn if back on and this time start hitting the delete button.
Still got the same message.
I found the Service Tag number if it would help---104V312.
I also found a diagnostics button and it lists all devices. Most of the things listed have a green checkmark before them, but the hard drive has a red x before it and a 0 after it. Does that help?
Ok , nancy.
This means that the HDD of the computer is bad or defective.
You will need to get to have the HDD replaced.
Do you still have the Recovery CD's when you purchased the system?
I'm not sure--I'll have to look in the other room for it. If I find it can I use it to get the computer going again, and will I have lost everything I had on the computer?
Nancy,
The HDD seems to be defective. This is where all your files are saved.
Your computer seems not to find the HDD which is why it is giving you the error it cannot find the OS.
Im sorry but there is a big possibility that the files are gone.
About the CDs you will need those once you have a new HDD installed
Were you able to find the CDs Nancy?
Thank you. I must go now.
Do you have other questions?
Taking the HDD out will require tools and skills, it is best if you bring the unit to a computer repair center near you to get the HDD checked out and replace if possible. If you have the CD that came with the computer, Bring it with you so it can be installed.
