Hello. Well i think you must play by ear and use common sense. My cat is 14. He has biscuits and water down ad lib. When he asking for meat he has some. A sachet or some from a tin or some cooked chicken. If hes putting on too much weight i cut him down a bit but not too the point hes catching and eating mice and birds. I think a good owner should look up roughly what an adult cat needs food wise daily and then adjust to what you notice with your eyes. My cat loses weight in summer because hes outside more and puts weight on in winter because he stays indoors more. Maintaining balance is the key. If your cat is greedy n crying for food encourage him to go out n provide toys for him to play with. Just watch his weight. Good luck .
Hi,
I would like to know which kind of cat food you are giving to your cat, either canned or dry cat food. Normally, if you have been given any of those foods, there is product instruction in the package which gives an idea about required food weight according to the cat weight. You have to follow that, but make sure cat is getting enough clean water throughout the day. Feeding a cat twice a day is enough, however it depends on the preference of cat and your convenience. If you are giving canned food, make sure you are not keeping it for a long time; because it has more than 70% moisture which leads to spoil easily.
Adult cats only need to be fed once or twice a day. They have a tendency to become overweight. You can take the recommended daily feeding and either leave it out all day if your cat grazes or separate it into two feedings.
