I keep getting a message when I open my Windows Live Mail telling me that there has been unusual activity on my account and that I should take action to make sure no one else is using my account. When I continue a different email account comes up (Hotmail). I have since notice that all my contacts have been lost on my Windows Live Mail.
Thank you for your question. My name is rofel and i will assist you with your concern
What is your email address that you are using on your Windows Live Mail? Do you recognize the hotmail account in you windows live mail? Are you the only one who is using the computer?
Please provide the information needed to be able to fix the issue. Thanks
My email address is email@example.com. I am the only one using this computer. I also have a Hotmail account - address - firstname.lastname@example.org
Yes, I recognize the hotmail account
Can you still see the telus email account on your windows live mail? If not then we need to reconfigure your telus email to work with Windows Live Mail.
To add your telus account please follow the steps below.
My incoming mail server is: IMAP
Incoming server: imap.telus.net
Outgoing server: smtp.telus.net
Please let me know what happen. Thanks
I don't think I have to add the email account. I can see my telus email account and I am receiving messages on it. One of the messages was you, of course.
What I do not have is access to my contacts. They are all gone.
I understand. Since the email address is working the only concern is the message that you received when you open your Windows Live Mail is that correct?
Can you please provide the exact message that you get?
OK - I will have to write it down - I tried to copy it but it would not work. Back in minute. I have to access Windows Live Mail again to get the message.
Can you please go to webmail.telus.net and login to your email? Can you please check if the contacts are still there?
Yes, the contacts are still there. They are not the contacts I had in Windows Live Mail. With Telus webmail, I had to re-enter any email addresses I needed at that time borrowing them from Windows Live
When you setup your telus email for the first time did windows live mail automatically obtain the contact in your telus email or you copy it manually?
Here is the message I get each time I open Windows Live Mail:
"We have noticed some unusual activity in your account. Your action is needed to make sure no one else is using your account.
To continue click OK
So I click OK and a Window Live page opens up with a message saying:
"You're already signed in" and it shows my Windows Live ID:
I don't know. I got Windows Live Mail when I had a tech upgraded my computer to Windows 7 with a new hard drive after I had dropped my computer on the floor. That was a year ago, and up until now everything has been working fine.
Can you check if you can send emails using your hotmail account? Can you also check if you can login in your hotmail account using a browser.
Go to hotmail.com then sign in. Try to send a test email and see if you will receive an error message about your account.
I opened my hotmail account using Internet Explorer. I then sent a message to my Windows Live Mail address from my hotmail and I received it
You can avoid that message by doing this.
Check your contacts and recipients lists to make sure that you’re only sending messages to people who want to receive them.
Reduce the number of messages that you send to large groups of people so they're less likely to think your messages are unwanted email.
Limit the number of chain letters, email jokes, and other messages that you send to help people recognize your email as wanted. This also makes it more likely that your message will be allowed past your recipients' junk email filters.
Check all the contacts in your address book to make sure that the accounts are still active.
Are you doing this kind of stuff on your hotmail account?
There was not an error message. The only error message I get is in Windows Live Mail, not hotmail. And it only happens when I first open the mail for the first time. Right now there is no error message in Windows Live Mail because I am already logged in. If I log out and log back in, the error message will appear
Due to what ever reason your hotmail account was flagged due to suspicious activity or unusual activity. Do you have an antivirus on your computer? Is it a free trial or a license one?
It is AVG and it is licensed
Further more, it was not my hotmail account that was flagged. It was my telus account. When I log into hotmail, I do not receive the error message. It is only when I login to windows live mail through telus that I get the error
I do not use (except in error, or for accessing contacts) my Window Live Mail when we are traveling. I can receive emails, but I can not send. So I must use Telus webmail. It does not work very well, so that is why I went to hotmail because it works much better. I don't know if this is significant or not. Sometimes I go to Windows Live Mail when we are traveling to retieive an email address I need and don't have access to with my hotmail, or with telus webmail.
Can you try to check the settings of your Telus account on your windows live mail. Ive provided the settings earlier. Please check if the outgoing mail server is correct so that you can send emails using Windows Live Mail.
So, when people email me using email@example.com, I receive the message in my telus webmail account. It does not go through Windows Live Mail. If, however, I use Windows Live Mail to access a contact or other info from folders I have there, if there are messages in telus webmail, they will open in the Windows Live mail account. As I indicated earlier, I can not reply to these messages in Windows Live for some reason. Hence, the telus webmail acccount and the hotmail account are used while we are traveling. By the way, we were away for 4 months.
I just sent a message from windows live mail to my hotmail address and I received it. So, Windows live is working and messages are being sent
Did you check if the settings are correct on the Windows Live Mail
Outgoing server: smtp.telus.net
Can you please also donwload an run the antimalware in your computer so that we can check if there are infections that are running. Just download the Free 30 days trial.
Which one did you use to send email to your hotmail account is that the telus email account or hotmail?
Sorry, I have to go. Maybe I should contact telus and see if they can come up with something. This is giving me a headache.
Telus email account
Just keep us updated. You can send me a message when you go back incase telus were not able to fix the issue so that we can continue the process. Dont forget to run malwarebytes on the computer it is an additional protection for your computer.
It means that it is working. Just do a full scan on your computer to check some infections on the computer
