I have a Sony Experia Z3v phone. Bluetooth can be accessed through the quick settings menu or the settings menu. On the quick settings menu, my phone shows Bluetooth "on", and won't slide to "off". On the full settings menu, after selecting "Bluetooth", it shows Bluetooth "off", and I can slide it to on, but it's grayed out. Either way, my Bluetooth does not activate.

Did you perform a software upgrade on the phone?

As I am sure you know, the battery can't be removed without a major ordeal as the back is glued on.
