I recently bought and installed a HDD, GNRC, 3TB,5.4K, SATA3 internal hard drive on my HP Pavilion HPE H9 1150t and now the system will not boot. Power activates the fans, but after about 10 seconds, the system beeps about 5 times, then nothing. I've tried all of the following: checked all cables; removed the new hard drive and just used the original; swapped out SATA cable; tried the SATA cable in a different SATA connection slots; tried pressing F11 during power on; tried using the recovery disks that I created. Nothing is working. Have I killed my computer?

Hi Dan,

Thank you for waiting!

A non Detected HDD or a defecive HDD will not cause a computer to Beep.

Check your memory, Remove it blow some air in the port where you removed it and place it back in Firmly.

Let me know how this goes.

Hi Ferdinand

when you say check memory, how exactly do I do that?

HP Technician

Open the desktop cover

The memory should be somewhere here "I circled it in RED"

It should look like this

To remove it push the white TABS on the side of it away from the memory and that should release the memory

To put it back in just pushed in downward till it sanps in to place.

Posted
Customer

ok, let me give that a try.

Try using other Memory slot remove the memory and try another memory port.

Posted
Customer

ok.  but why would this make any difference?  I did not install or move the memory chips when I installed the hard drive.   Just opened the hd case, inserted new hd, attached cables, then powered up.

All things inside the Computer tower are sensitive.

Most of the removable parts inside this are not screwed fixed but ports and cartridges.

We cannot point your problem to the HDD as it does not contribute to the error you're getting.

Definitely it is a hardware but I will not say it is the HDD that you replaced.

How many memory card do you have?

Posted
Customer

i have 4 memory cards, all 4 available slots are have a card.

Posted
Ferdinand Aquino

something wrong on mother board?

Posted
Ferdinand Aquino
HP Technician

With our lack of spare to test out parts.

I would say it is either your videocard or Motherboard.

If you can bring your tower to local tech which can test their video card testers you will be able to pinpoint the problem.

Posted
Customer

thanks,  how can i find local tech?

Posted
Ferdinand Aquino
HP Technician
