I have a Samsung WA422 washer that's about 3 months old. Today when we started a load it quit with about 12 minutes left and the lights are blinking. It seems it won't drain.

When I try to do just a spin cycle it turns slowly for about a minute then stops with the lights blinking. There is no sound of water draining.

When I first looked at it (after my wife called me) I shut it off and turned it back on and chose Rinse & Spin. I think the blinking lights were the bar next to the round cycle dial as well as the T-shirt icon that said 'Wash' under it. Later I tried doing just a spin cycle. The dial light blinked as well as the spin icon. It started to spin slowly (and silently) and then after a minute or so it stopped. The tub is full of water.

I've since removed all the closes and bailed out all the water out. I also removed the drain hose on the back to drain the remaining water.

Try to run a reset/test on your washer first:

Unplug thepower cord from the wall socket or turn off the circuit breaker for 5 mins. Turn on the breaker and plug in the power cord.

Run a test cycle as follows to check if your washer is properly installed.

  1. Load about 6 pounds of laundry into the tub.
  2. Press the Power button to turn on your washer.
  3. Select the Rinse+Spin cycle by turning the Cycle Selector.
  4. Press the Start/Pause button to start the test cycle.
  5. The washer should not rock or vibrate excessively when water is supplied or when washing
or spinning, and should drain well during the spin cycle.

Next is to run calibration mode:

To run Calibration Mode, follow these steps:

  1. Remove laundry or any contents in the machine and turn on the machine.
  2. On the WA456, press the Delay Start and Eco Plus buttons simultaneously, and then press
the Power button. On the WA422 or WA400, press the Delay Start and Pre Soak buttons
simultaneously, and then press the Power button. The machine turns on.
  3. Press the Start/Pause button to activate “Calibration Mode”.
  4. The pulsator rotates clockwise and counterclockwise for approximately 1 minute.
  5. When “Calibration Mode” is finished, “End” (WA456) / “En” (WA422, WA400*) appears on
the display, and the machine automatically turns off. The washing machine is now ready for
    use.

Can I put in the soaking wet clothes that I removed a while ago for the first test?

Sure, go ahead.

While I'm waiting the 5 minutes...I found a Technical Information manual taped to the back of the machine. It it is says how to run a Quick Test. One of these is for a Drain Pump Test. The directions say to press Spin, Soil Level, and Power keys at the same time. All the lights light up and then it "displays the software version for a sec and Clear EEPROM". It says once the version number displays to turn the dial so the version disappears, the press 'Spin' to do a Drain Pump Test.

After hitting the three buttons it flashes "Uc" then "28" back and forth. I turn the dial (not sure where to turn it) but when I hit the 'Spin' button nothing happens. Are you familiar with this test?

Sorry not familiar with that procedure. That test is for the drain pump test. Nothing related to spin/washing issue hat we have.

Please perfor the run test and calibration first and lets see what will happen. Put less clothes only since what we are doing is testing only.

Okay, I'm running the first test. However, I think the problem is that it isn't draining so the spin cycle stops because there is too much water still in the machine.

I'll let you know how the tests go.

alright. let me know the result.

The Rinse & Spin cycle started with about 22 minutes on the clock. The basin filled with water and the adjetator kicked in. With 12 minutes left it started the Spin cycle but the whole thing if full of water. When it started spinning the best it could and gave up after about a minute. Now it's full of water again and not doing anything.

ok lets skip the run test. Lets proceed the calibration then perform the test again after calibrating.

Can I do that when the tub if full of water?

Posted by Guest one year ago

no. you need to remove everything in the tub.

It's been a long day and it took quite a while to do this the first time. I may have to bag it for the night and start again in the morning. Can I continue this thread tomorrow?

Sure no problem. you take a rest now.

One last test before you go. You said that the machine is not draining. See the procedure below if it is not draining.

• Check the fuse or reset the circuit breaker.

• Straighten the drain hoses. Eliminate kinked hoses. If there is a drain restriction, you need to call for service.

• Close the lid and press the Start/Pause button. For your safety, your
washer will not spin unless the lid is closed.
