Hi,

Thank you for the quick response.
There are many reasons why your Ipod is disabled. First we have to check that you have the updated version for iTunes. For Windows, the updated version is 11.0.3. Please check the version of your iTunes by going to Help and then click About iTunes.

The Ipod got disabled due to a friend changing the password, and my daughter trying to unlock, locked it.

In my earlier response I indicated I am at work and I don't have Itunes.

Hi Shah,

Yes we can actually do that. We need to connect the Ipod to iTunes by using your computer and have it on recovery mode for it to go through. If you're already available, please leave a comment on this thread and we can continue later on. I'll be standing by. Thanks!

Ok. Please follow these steps.

  1. The first thing you want to do is to make sure you have iTunes installed.
  2. To unlock your iPod screen first plug in your iPod and go to: My Computer. Look for the your iPod device and click on it. The next thing you want to do is to look for the hidden file named: _locked. Rename this folder to _unlocked.
  3. Eject your iPod safely. All your music, photos, and video on your iPod will stay intact. I suggest you go to your iPod combination now and change it to something you will always remember.

Let me know if this helps.

Hi,

please follow the steps below.

= Open Windows Explorer and Hold down both the SHIFT and CTRL keys while you are connecting your iPod to your computer.
Keep holding these keys down until you actually see your iPod show up as a Drive in Windows Explorer. This will be a short time after Windows detects the iPod hardware.
The iPod should show up in Windows Explorer as a removable hard disk.

Holding down the SHIFT and CTRL keys will prevent iTunes from running any kind of automatic sync or starting up when it detects the iPod, but the iPod will remain connected as a removable disk and ready to work with.

= If you browse to the iPod, you will see a number of folders on it for some of the additional features like contacts, calendars,
and notes. Please click "tools", "Folder Options", select the "View" tab and check the "Show hidden files and folders" item under the view tab to show all hidden folders. You can also click "Start", "Control Panel", "Folder Options", and on the "View" tab check the "Show hidden files and folders" item under the view tab.

= Once in the iPod_Control folder, you will see a number of sub-folders, including a Device folder. The Device folder is the folder that your password file is in. Rename the _locked file to _unlocked. Then remove your iPod.
