Hi,

Thank you for contacting us through the forum. It's my pleasure to assist you.

Follow these steps, testing after each:

Turn the iPad off and turn it on again. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPad for a few seconds, until a red slider appears. Then slide the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Please let us know if you have further questions.

Respectfully,

I'm sorry for the reference to iPad but it should work the same for iPhones as well.

It will not work, nothing happens when I try to power it up
I have already done that as that was obvious

Hi Kathy,

Thanks for writing back and letting me know that resetting the iPhone did not work. I see that you've also recharged your device already but it still does not turn on. What we will do now is to try and restore your device to it's factory settings. This erases all the data and settings on your phone (hopefully you synced it recently and backed up your data), but it can solve a lot of problems.

Follow these steps to restore your device:

  • Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
  • Connect your device to your computer.
  • Select your iPhone when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
  • Select the Summary tab.
  • Select the Restore option.
  • When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not necessary to create another.

  • Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up, you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).

  • When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple logo while starting up:

After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or you see "iPhone is activated."

This should restore your device to factory settings. Try it and let me know if this works.

Hi Kathy,

I just want to check back on you and find out if your iPhone is already working and it is charging up properly. Did the procedure I gave you previously work? Please let us know if you still need further assistance.

Hello Kathy,

I'm sorry if the procedure I gave you seems tedious. I would like to assure you that I have actually performed these procedures for other customers and they have worked. Please bear with me as we try to troubleshoot your device and providing you one procedure at a time. My intention is so you will not be overwhelmed if I would give all the procedures you need to do in one sweep. And if I provide you with all the procedures, we wouldn't know which one worked for you. If every there was a procedure that you've already done or did not work for you, please let me know at once so I can investigate on it further and provide you with alternatives.

I really want to help you with your enjoy your device already as when it worked properly for you the last time.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help you and make this more enjoyable for you.

Respectfully,

Joseph

I'm sorry for the typographical error, what I meant was "I really want to help you enjoy your device like you did when it worked properly for you the last time."
