I am using Picasa 3.9.16.37
In it I have a folder and an album with the same 8 photos recently imported from my camera.
I cannot get either to upload to my online albums.
When I click on share I receive an UPload Manager box. It says:
Error: Failed to retrieve url for upload. Please logout and try again. (I have done so twice to no avail)
When I click on "Click here to View Errors" I am told "One or more images failed to upload: (post - post URL not found)
The "Sync to web" little button flashes when I click it but doesn't illuminate.
I've retried several times, nothing happens
I've tried to drag the photos both from folder and album, directly into my Online Albums but they won't do it.
I've spent over 1 hour trying, and feel very frustrated, as I never had this problem before.

Please advise what to do

Upload troubleshooting (Windows)

If you're unable to upload photos, please follow the troubleshooting steps below. Picasa relies on your Internet Options in Control Panel (Wininet) to connect to the Internet. Some browsers, such as Firefox, do not use these settings. It's possible that your Internet connection through a different browser works just fine, yet Picasa still can't connect. If one of these steps solves the problem, you don't need to complete the remaining steps.

Windows: STEPS

Upload troubleshooting (Mac)

The screenshots looks like they were taken on a Mac computer if so here are some information and solutions that might help:

From the iPhoto Library

Picasa for Mac has been designed to play nicely with iPhoto.

Picasa doesn't store any of your photos. It simply scans your hard drive and displays the photo files it finds. In this way, Picasa folders represent the actual directories containing photos on your computer's hard drive.

Picasa handles the iPhoto Library in the same way, with a small variation made for the way in which the iPhoto Library organizes your photos: If you've made edits in iPhoto, each album or event in your iPhoto Library contains an 'Originals' folder and a 'Modified' folder. Picasa scans the photos and videos in both the 'Originals' and 'Modified' folders, and displays a single collective folder with the most recent version of each file.

The photos in your iPhoto Library will be displayed in Picasa in the 'iPhoto Library' collection as read-only files. The read-only status is necessary to ensure that Picasa and iPhoto work well together. You can do a lot with read-only files in Picasa -- upload, create a collage, create a movie, email, print -- but you won't be able to make any material changes: this includes editing, moving, deleting, adding tags and using Sync to Web.

Of course there's a solution: When you attempt to use Picasa to edit an iPhoto Library picture, Picasa will ask your permission to copy the entire folder containing that photo to a location outside of the iPhoto Library -- they're placed in a different folder under 'Pictures' titled 'Imported from iPhoto.' You'll then have access to the full range of tools that Picasa offers. It's also possible to import your entire iPhoto Library in this manner. Just go to the File menu > Import from iPhoto... Please be aware that this action will make copies of your entire iPhoto Library.

By default, Picasa for Mac will look for your iPhoto Library in its usual location (Pictures > iPhoto Library); other iPhoto Libraries will be excluded from Picasa. If you'd like to remove the read-only 'iPhoto Library' from Picasa, you can do so using the folder manager.

The upload problem seems to have been solved, when I did what I could of the suggestions you listed, (not all were understandable - like invisible pages) but only after I signed out and back in again. So quite what it was - who knows.

A last question. At present my photos are in the Mac unchangeable folder
"Pictures". Is that necessary? Can I make a separate folder? Can it be on an external drive?

thanks

That's great that the problem has been resolved. Please do not forget to show your appreciation for my efforts by clicking the green Accept Answer button right below my first response above. Regarding your additional question like moving photos to a new folder, you can follow these instructions:

Moving photos to a new folder

Picasa makes it easy to move photos into new folders. Depending on your need, you can either split a folder at a specific point into two folders or else select and move specific photos into a new folder.
Move photos to a new folder

  1. Right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Mac) the photo that you'd like to move. To select multiple photos from the same folder, press the Ctrl key (Windows) or the Command key (Mac) while clicking several photos, then right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Mac) a selected photo.
  2. Select Move to New Folder.
  3. Enter the folder properties.
  4. Click the OK button.

Split a folder

You can split a folder into two if you have pictures grouped together that you want to move to another folder. Follow these steps:

  1. Right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Mac) the first photo of the group that should be moved to a new folder.
  2. Select Split Folder Here. Notice that all the subsequent pictures in the folder are also selected.
  3. Enter the folder properties.
  4. Click the OK button.
In both cases, the new folder is created in the same parent directory on your computer as the folder that originally contained the photos.

I hope the additional information given helps. Thank you again for getting in touch with us.
