My iPhone came with hotspot service and I have been using it successfully for 4+ months. Yesterday, after I had been using other networks for several weeks, I tried to use it again and not only didn't it work for my computer, the category on my iPhone settings page has disappeared.

Hi,

Thanks for your question. My name is Himanshu and I will be glad to provide my assistance to your concern.

Please try to reset the Network Setting via the following steps:

  • Open Settings and tap on “General”
  • Tap on “Reset Network Settings”

Now tap back to Settings and you should see the familiar Personal Hotspot option

Thanks,
Himanshu

Hi,

Please try the below mentioned steps:

Settings>General>Network and you should see personal hotspot there --> activate it and change password. Now deactivate it and you should see personal hotspot added on the main setting.

If the above mentioned steps does no good then try the following:-

Change the name of your iPhone and then reboot it for the hotspot to show up again.
This can be done through Settings -> General -> About -> Name

Hi,

Another possible fix is to retype the access point name in through Internet Tethering settings. This can be accessed through Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data, look under “Internet Tethering” for APN, and fill in an access point name.

Hope the information helps in sorting out the issue.

Himanshu

I went to the cellular data place and there was only an off/on toggle, no drop down where I could find Internet Tethering. And what would I use for an access point name if I did find where to change it?

Hi,

1- Go to Setting>General>Network make sure cellular data is ON
2- Click on cellular Data Network and scroll down till you see the option Internet Thethering
3- Type the APN, and all other information as it appears above under cellular data
4- Lastly go back to network and scroll down and you will find personal hotspot and you can find as well on setting main menu

The APN defines the network path for all cellular data connectivity.Contact your carrier to verify the correct APN.

A quick query: Did you installed any application recently?

Himanshu

Did #1.
when doing #2 I can not find how to click on cellular Data Network to scroll down; all I can do with the cellular data place is press the off button and it changes to on or vice versa. Therefore can't do to the rest of the steps. I have someone else look at your instructions and my iphone and they agree.

Hi,

Please let me know the version of your iOS

Do let me know if you can see Personal Hotspot Instead of Internet Thethering

Go to Settings, General, Network and Scroll down to Personal Hotspot instead.

Hi,

Thanks for your question. My name is Rofel and I will assist you with your concern. In addition to Himanshu Arora solution please follow the steps below and check if you will be able to connect enable your hotspot.

Go to the settings menu:

alt text

In settings, you'll see a 'personal hotspot' menu item. Tap it.

alt text

In the personal hotspot menu, slide the "personal hotspot" option to "on"

Note: Apple has allocated the connection a default password which is shown on this screen too. You can either use it (as each iPhone 4 gets a different random password) or change it to something you can more easily remember by tapping on it.

alt text

Then, on your computer's Wi-Fi menu, you should see your iPhone pop up in the list after a few seconds. The network name is the name of your iPhone in iTunes.

Once the network is selected and you've put in the password you selected in the last step (or Apple's default password), you'll be able to connect your tablet, laptop and any other Wi-Fi device to the net via your iPhone's data plan.

If I were able to assist you with your concern please click on the green Accept Answer button below my first response so that i get credit on helping you. Let me know if otherwise, so we can continue troubleshooting.

Thanks
