I have experienced this noise only a few times in the last 6 months. I have cleaned the filters and keep the inside very clean, I do not use anything in the oven that I shouldn't. The noise is like a gun shot and it happens when I press start, then it works fine. I purchased the oven in 2006 model # MV1526W/1Goldstar

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us. My name is Mario and I am here to help you resolve your issues. Please unplug your microwave for half an hour then test it when heating food.

If that doesn't help, the magnetron is probably on the verge of failure and will eventually stop working. You would have to take your microwave to a service center for a repair. However, replacement of the microwave oven will prove to be more practical in the long run.

I will be waiting for your response.

Thank you,
Mario V.

I turned off the oven and now have turned it back on. It may take a while for it to malfunction again as it seems to do it only once in a while. What is the magnetron, and is it dangerous to continue using it until it finally dies? Thanks Erma

Erma,

Thank you for writing back. The magnetron is a diode-type electron tube which is used to produce the microwave energy. You can continue using your microwave until it dies. However, make sure you don't leave the room while it is on. If the microwave is overheating, smoking, sparking or reproducing electrical burning smell, unplug it immediately as it could catch fire due to failing.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you,
Mario V.
