I have a Coolpix P520. When starting it up for the first time in a couple months, the camera asked me to reset the date, so I did. I later noted that doing this had also reset the photo numbers (the #s that show up when I download pics onto my computer: DSCN0001, DSCN0002, etc.) to DSCN0001). So...I just now reached some of the photos I'd saved from the first time around, and it appears that the NEW photos are replacing the old photos with the same numbers (the the old ones are going away...). Hopefully I'm explaining this matter correctly. Have you any suggestions for keeping the older photos from disappearing? Thank you, Dave McBee

...few months, the camera asked me to RESET DATE. So I did, but when I resumed taking pictures I figured out that by doing so I had also reset the DSCN numbers attached to the pictures. So...when the numbers reached previous numbers that I had saved onto my MacBook, the NEW numbers have started replacing OLDER pictures with the same numbers. Of course, I don't want to lose those older pictures.

I figure, from a completely non-technical viewpoint like my own, that resetting the DSCN numbers above all those currently in use, that COULD maybe solve the problem. I don't know, that's just a guess. I'll go check the highest number on file.

Hanging around...

So Are you saying that it is replacing the photos when you transfer them in your MAC Book when the photos have identical name on it?

Customer

Yes, the older pictures with the same number disappear.

The Coolpix does not have an option for us to manipulate how it write the name of a photo when taken, The camera automatically give the photo its file name according to time and date.

The solution you can do is to create a folder of the old photos in your mac and relocate them from where your coolpix save the files so they don't overwrite each other.

I can help you do this, We can upgrade your Question to remote suport for $20 one-time so we can secure the old photos.
