Hello Hauser
How are you doing? Will it crank when you start the vehicle? I'll be standing by for your response.
Thank you
Relly
I am here now. Several times a day, the car makes no noise at all when you turn the key. Then for the next time it may start.
Good to hear back from you Hauser. Did the dealer say that they can't rerprogram the key for new codes?
The dealer is trying to get the code from GM. It may take 48 hours. This makes no sense so I called around and found a dealer who said that could get the code and cut a key tomorrow. I don't know when tomorrow comes if they wil be able to do this. Does this sound logical? Can a key cause this trouble?
Thank you for that information Hauser. Going with the key is one smart move because it can be the culprit. But what if it still fails with the new key and code? It can be a starter that's about to die that's why it will not at times. Another thing to look at is a failing crankshaft position sensor shown below.
When the crankshaft position sensor begins to fail, the signal it transmits to the vehicle’s computer begins to weaken. If left unattended, the signal will switch off completely. This, in turn, causes the car’s spark plugs to die out, killing the engine. If you are having problems starting your car, it could indicate a bad crankshaft position sensor.
This things should be looked at Hauser if changing the key doesn't resolve the issue. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there's anything else I can add or help you with.
Thank you
Relly
Starter has just been replaced. That was the first thing thy did. My mechanic hasn't mentioned th failing crankshaft position sensor. How often does something like this happen and is it very expensive?
10 years is reasonable enough for the crankshaft position sensor failure Hauser. The sensor will cost at around $14 to $20 plus your mechanic's labor. Let's just hope that it works on the new key Hauser. At least you know what to do if the new key doesn't resolve the issue.
Is there anything else I can add or help you with Hauser?
Relly
Thank you so much for your help. I hope I get the new key tomorrow and it works. If not I'll go from there, but at least I';; have something else to tell the mechanic. Can a bad key ause the trouble I am having?
Thank you for your advice
You're welcome. Happy New year and goodluck!
Thank you
Relly
Dear Hauser, It was a pleasure helping you with your Chevrolet issue today. Here is a summary of the resolution.
Issue identified : Intermittent starting issue
Solution Implemented : Replacing and reprogramming the key is the first thing to be done. Starter may need replacement but already replaced by cx. If everything else fails, the CKP must be replaced. Solution Accepted
If issue resurfaces : If issue resurfaces in next 30 days, come back to this Question page and let me know. If you are unable to find your way back to this Question page, please contact our customer support either by email (s**t@experthelp.com) OR call us at ***-***-****
