I have had a recurrent oil leak from the rear seal area of the engine. It happened at 10,000 km, 90,000 km, 108,000 km, and now again at 114,00 km. I am told it is a oil pressure sensor and they repair it, but it is now getting quite annoying. what can you tell me?

Is the leak coming from the oil pressure sensor again Bob?

Posted
Customer

it would appear so. at this point I am wondering if they are hiding a more serious problem of main seal leak. I have extended warranty.

Here's what I suspect Bob but still needs to be proven. I am thinking that the oil pressure switch is faulty/broken before installing and they just put a gasket just to prevent the leak. It's just a suspicion which is actually happening in the dealership or any other repair shop. Not unless that there's a crack on the case where the oil pressure switch is attached. Can't see any other reason why it will make a leak again Bob

This is the 4th time. It 1st happened at 10,00 kilometers then was good until 90,000 kilometers. the last time was abot 7000 kilometers ago.

Posted
Customer

that was 10,000 kms

The fist time that it happened seems to be reasonable enough Bob. 80,000 kilometers difference is good enough for replacement. If the mileage is a little low for oil pressure replacement then the problem can be on the part itself. Please take note that even brand new parts can be under factory defects

But 4 times now. I agree that 80,000 is reasonable but in the last 14000 kilometers it has been replaced twice and is leaking again. I have been very happy with the car, but must admit I am becoming annoyed at this point. I think I will take it to a different dealer for repair this time to see what they come up with. how do you feel about that ?

I'm about to ask you if it's the same dealer. I believe it's time to try a different one Bob to resolve the issue. 4 times replacement in the same dealer in 4 years is kinda odd

Customer

I agree. I tried to find others on the net with the same problem and only found 1 other. Have you heard of this being a common problem on this car ?

I can't actually consider it as a common problem because oil pressure switch do fail overtime. Not even a recall on the service bulletins. I suggest that you ask the mechanic to check the body for crack or loose thread where the oil pressure switch is attached. It can be the cause of the leakage Bob
