Hi, I co-own a dog with a friend. My dogs name is Tosca. Tosca has been in the Czech Republic for the past year. That is where my friend lives. Tosca went there to be bred and have her last litter. By the way, Tosca is a purebred Papillon. Her DOB is 09/26/2010. She is a a multi international champion show dog. She has had 4 healthy litters. Her last litter was born on 06/10/2017. She was spayed on 08/11/2017. She also had a tooth pulled at that time. Tosca was put on antibiotics for the dental work. Since the surgery, Tosca has not been feeling very well. On Wednesday she became really sick. She is very lethargic, stopped eating, started vomiting and became dehydrated. She was seen by a vet in the Czech Republic yesterday. He did lab work, I do not know what lab tests he did, which was normal. Her temperature is normal. He gave her a medication called Declan for her vomitting. He also rehydrate her. He said that he was not sure what was wrong with her. This morning, she went back to the vet. She had started vomiting again and there is a small amount of blood in it. When the vet took her temperature, there was a little blood on the thermometer when he pulled it out. Tosca does not have diarrhea and has not had any stool for the last couple days. Today the vet tubed her and gave her some food that way. Tosca's symptoms are worse. She will only get up to go potty. She is drinking a whole lot. Very thirsty. The vet said that her eyes are not reacting correctly to the dark and to the light. The vet still does not know what is wrong with her. I understand that it is not easy to diagnose without seeing the dog. But, I really need your help. Tosca is very special to me. She is too sick to be flown back here. Do you have any idea of what could be wrong with her based on her symptoms? Are there any specific blood tests or other tests that you would recommend? Is there a treatment plan that you would recommend? The vet that has been seeing Tosca is open to suggestions from a US vet. Please let me know any suggestions you have. I can't lose Tosca, she is my baby. Oh, there are other dogs in the house with Tosca but, none of them are sick. Like I said, she started getting sick after her spay surgery. Even though she was on antibiotics. Please help me as soon as possible. Thank you, Lisa

As you say it is difficult to say for sure when you can not see the dog.  One possibility is that the antibiotics may have made her sick.  You did not say if he took any x rays.  As long as an obstrtuction has been eliminated as one of the possibilities it could be her pancreas acting up.  This is a hard disease to diagnose.  Sometimes you will have enzymes called lipase and amylase that may be high but not always.  Does your friend think she could have eaten anything that she shouldn't have especially if it was real fatty.    I would keep her hydrated and keep her on some kind of vomiting medicine.  A good oral medicine for vomiting is called Sucralfate 1000 mg  she could take 1/2 tablet every 8 hours   this drug goes into the stomach and plugs up the irritated areas.   The fact that her blood work is normal is good but it would be nice to know what was run and the results. Since it has been a week since she was spayed I do not think that this is related to the vomiting.  She just needs real good support with fluids and drugs until this hopefully will pass.  But a foreign body obstruction until proven other wise still has to be a consideration.  Depending on the type of equipment available an ultra sound would be very helpful in that regard. If this is not available and she continues to vomit and get worse then an exploratory surgery may have to be done to see what is going on for sure. Does her abdomen feel tense or painful.  If not that is a good thing and support therapy may  pull her through. If you get more info let me know I will be around the rest of day and I will check this sight every 30 minutes to an hour.

It is difficult to tell when you don't see the dog   It could be the antibiotics made her sick or she could have eaten something she should not have and it may have triggered this.  She could have an obstruction with a foreign body.  Does your freind think she ate anything strange, especially if it was fatty   You did not say  if x rays were taken.  An Ultra sound may help elimimate an obstruction.   Her pancreas could be acting up  An ezyme test Amylase or Lipase may show that to a problem. Even though her blood work was normal it would be nice the see what was run. If  an obstuction can be elimimated from the possible diagnosis  then supportive therapy and vomiting meds may pull her through.  A good stomach drug is Sulcrafate 1000mg she could take a 1/2 tablet every 8 hours  This drug goes into the stomach and helps coat the irritated areas. If ultra sound is not available and she continues to vomit then an exporatory may need to done to what is going on.  If you get more info let me know I will check the sight the rest of night about every 30 to 60 minutes  Good luck.

They did an ultrasound which was negative. She does not know what blood work was done but she said they "ran a complete bloodwork panel. She is at Petra's house and resting right know. Petra is amazing with Tosca. I trust her completely and know that Tosca will get the best care with her.
