The loading icon begins to rotate then the screen goes black as if the ipad has shut down

Thank you for your response. Can you try to press and hold the power button and the home button of your iPad until you see the apple logo and let go of the two buttons. Please see the picture below for your reference.

Then once the iPad is up and running try to open your Nook app again and advise me what will be the result. I will be standing by.

It did the same thing again... tries to load then shuts down

I see. Can you try to delete the app and then download it again from app store. Then once it is downloaded try to open it.
