I have an older LG501c TracFone. Occasionally I will receive a text message and when I click to view I see the sender name and a word or two. I click OK to view the whole message and all that displays is the sender name and time. No message. Tonight I received 13 rapid fire texts from one sender. Each one showed a word or two and when I clicked to view the entire message only the sender name and time appear. Each of them cost me extra time to receive them but they are not there. Do you have any idea what is going on? If not, can I suspend receiving text messages? Thank you.

Is it sender specific ? or do you encounter that problem to different senders too?

Posted
Customer

It has happened with other senders as well, all of whom I know.

OK. Does it sometimes work OK or consistent?

Yes, some messages come through fine.  Sporadically this problem crops up but this past weekend was the worse.  Thirteen rapid-fire texts that only have one or two words in them but I can't string them together and have them make sense.  Too many words are missing.

I should say that what words are there are on the initial text screen when the text comes in.  When I press the OK button to view the entire message, there is no message.  It only shows the sender and the time sent.

These are called junk messages that not succesfully received by your tracfone service over the air. What I would recommend is for you not to open the blank messages for you not to get charge. There's nothing wrong with your phone. The problem lies on the  text service. Text messaging service is assessed a per-message fee for sending and opening received messages. Blocking text messages on your phone saves you from paying unwanted fees on your mobile account if you are getting junk /icomplete messages. After you block text messaging service with TracFone, you will not be able to send or receive any text messages.

Rather than block texting services altogether, when a junk message comes in I should just ignore it, is that right?

Yes. Ignore and do not open the text message.

Is there anything else?

Customer

That is what I will do, but what causes the problem?

It's either a newtork error  or the sender may have set or using a different messaging app that is not working for tracfones.

Is this an issue that Tracfone can fix or repair?

the best option they can provide most of the time is changing the SIM card but as you've said some messages works OK so changing the sim will not be a good option if others are working OK.

OK.  Thank you for your help in trying to resolve this.
