Hello James
How are you doing? Please follow the steps below on how to replace the brake switch.
1. Remove the panel under the dashboard.
2. Unplug the OBD II cable from the port if neccessary. This will give you more room but is not neccessary.
3. Unplug the electrical connector from the brake light swtich. The brake light switch is located right above the brake pedal.
4. Remove the brake light switch by pressing on the lock tab and rotating.
5. Install the new brake light switch in revers order.
6. Plug the electrical connector back in and install the under dash panel.
Please click the blue BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH link below for reference.
Hope this helps James. Is there anything else I can add or help you with? I'll be standing by for your response.
Thank you
Relly
That's for a mercedes ml 320. I own a mercedes ml 350. The brake curves to the left, not straight up. I've already removed the first panel, but there's a second panel that needs removing.
Hi James
Good to hear back from you. Can you take a picture of the cover you are referring to? Mostly, covers are just secured by plastic snaps. The MLs are almost identical in brake light switch replacement not unless there's something else in there. You may send the picture in my email if you will have hard time attaching it here. d**9@yahoo.com
You may want to check the blue BRAKE link below but I believe it's similar to the first one but this is clearer.
I'll be standing by for your response. Thank you.
Regards,
Relly

12:50 PM CST Ticket #88389
"I will be working on my ML 350 this evening after 5:30 Central Time. I need to remove the panel that's between the steering wheel and the bottom panel. Any ideas on how to do that? Once that is off, the brake switch should be accessible."
Is it the plastic covering shown on the video James or is it something else? Hopefully you can send me a pic so I can see. Thanks
The cover shown in the video is easy to remove. The brake switch is above the brake pedal under the steering column.
This is the one you are referring to James?
There is a cover over the switch and brake pedal assembly that you need to remove to access the tabs on the back of the switch. There are four plastic tabs that hold the cover in place (red arrows). You can use a flathead screwdriver to release the clips.
With the cover off you can see the area where you need to release the four clips (red arrows).
This is what the switch looks like out of the assembly. With the gray section removed you reach around the back of the switch and squeeze in the tabs on the top and bottom of the white section (red arrows). When installing the new switch depress the brake pedal and insert the switch into the bracket. Press the switch all the way in. Release the brake pedal and slightly pull back on it. Installation of the rest of the components is the reverse of removal.

No, nothing like that is in the area around the brake pedal. This shouldn't be that hard.
If you can just take a picture of it James I can tell you what to do.
Ticket #88432 9:00AM CST
"Instead of the brake switch, do you have any suggestions on how to remove the 3rd brake light? Maybe it's that instead of the brake switch. I've given up on finding the brake switch. Mercedes ML 350."
Good to hear back from you James. To be able to get access to the tailgate 3rd brake light you will need to remove the door trim panel. It is secured by screws and plastic snaps. Please click on the blue REMOVAL link below so you can have an idea on what to do. Once you removed the plastic trims/cover you can access the wiper motors and other wiring harness including the 3rd brake light. Hope this helps and please let me know if there's something else I can add. Thank you
