Hello Chip
How are you doing? May I ask when was the last time you replaced the transmission fluid? If the fluid is burnt the transmission will have shifting issues. Is the check engine light lit on the cluster?
I'll be standing by for your response.
Thank you
Relly
Hello Relly,
This problem just started and I realized I'm not able to check the transmission fluid. Sometimes it really jerks hard when shifting!
I bought the car with 34K miles on it, and I have not changed the fluid as yet
Good to hear back from you Chip. Yes please check the transmission fluid first for it might require a fluid change. You may want to remove the negative battery connector as well for 5 minutes before reconnecting it. Sometimes resetting it can resolve the transmission issues. I believe these things will resolve the issue. If the problem persist I strongly suggest that you have it scanned for fault codes. There can be sensors failing and the scanner will tell what needs to be replaced.
I believe I'm hearing some humming or howling on the freeway at 70-80 mph
The humming sounds like a mechanical issue. It can be a torque converter or wheel bearing that needs grease or replacement. These are the possibilities Chip and I strongly suggest that you have it checked physically by a reputable shop or mechanic just to be sure and to avoid more damage.
I did just change the battery two weeks ago. This is about the time the problem started!
I see. The things I listed are the possible issues Chip and I strongly suggest that you start with the fluid. Fluid change can resolve the issue and if it doesn't., perform the other procedures.
Sounds good Relly. I will work on these items this week.
Thank You!
Chip
