May I know when was the last time you were able backup your contacts on your MAC?
I don't recall when I last backed up the phone. Some time in the past 3 months
Using iTunes
have you checked your contacts on your mac and see if the list is updated?

My Contacts on the Mac contain even less contacts than remain on my phone

NOTES:
-cx said some of the phone contacts are missing on his phone
-we checked the phone and it is connected to icloud
-we tried backing up the contact to icloud but some contacts are not showing in the icloud
-we saw itunes backup on his computer dated 11/9/2018 but cx want to make sure first to backup allhis iphone contacts to his computer before restoring the phone to that date.
-we tried downloading 3rd party software but they are all asking to buy the software to proceed with the export of contacts.
-told cx that i will opt out and look for another Expert for second opinion.

Dear Jon, It was a pleasure helping you with your Apple issue today. Here is a summary of the resolution.
Issue identified :
Lost most of his contacts on his phone
Solution Implemented :
Call customer / Remote Access
Assisted customer on how to view the contacts using the Restore on icloud settings. - Not all was recovered.
Continue what the previous agent used for viewing the itunes back up content.
Copied all content and made a shortcut on customer's Desktop screen So He can add the contacts as needed
