Alright. when was the last time you were able to power it on succesfully? Is there any power outage prior?

Customer

No power outages, and the last time was two days ago, counting today

OK.  Have you tried removing the battery?

Posted
Customer

Yes, even replaced the battery--any idea what the 7-beep signal represents??

7 beeps means CPU cache test failure which 99 percent of the time would mean a processor failure or motherboard failure. When yu replaced the battery did you tried to remove the ac adapter and held down the power button for at least 30 seconds?

Or have you tried  turning it on without the battery connected and just the ac adapter?

Posted
Customer

No, should I try that--there were no instructions to do so--in fact, there were no instructions at all--and no I have not done your second suggestion either,

Yes.

Try the removing the battery and unplug the AC adapter from the laptop. Hold down the power button for 30 secs. Plug the ac only to the laptop and try turning it on. let me know if it will give you the 7 beep codes or if it will boot.

Tried to start computer two times, but no joy--in fact, after about 10 or 15 seconds, the power indicator on the on/off switch goes out...

with the isolation we did it is confirmed that the machine will need a motherboard and processor replacement. replacing those parts is not recommended. what I would recommend is for you to save your hard drive instead . replacing the mainboard and processor would cost you more than getting a new machine.

saving you your hard drive  would let you transfer and save your important files once you have a new machine.

Customer

how does one save the hard drive??

Geek squad do offer those type of service. They can remove the hard drive to laptop and transfer the files to new the machine for data recovery. All you just need to do is to bring them the laptop and tell them to transfer it to your new machine or an external har drive.
