Hi Robert,

Thanks for getting in touch with  ExpertHelp.com. Does the screen show any display even when youre not on a call or accessing the phones menu?

FIRST STEP: As a first step in troubleshooting, Try these basic steps below and see if this will fix the problem:

  • Please place the handset on the base unit for recharging. If after recharging the screen is blank or won't turn on, reset the handset.
  • To reset the handset, just remove the handset cover at the back of the cordless handset, remove the battery for a few seconds and insert the battery and close the cover.

NOTE: The steps above should fix the problem for basic and minor screen issues. But if problem persists. proceed with the next options below.

CHECK BATTERY/BATTERIES: If the screen still show no details images after reset and only lights up when on a call another thing we need to check is the battery. This another common issue on handsets which is the cause of the battery memory effect. Rechargable batteries can develop a "memory" (reduced charged capacity) caused by repeated charge and discharge cycles. The battery life will seem to be shorter every time you use a unit and wont be able to completely power up the handset when in use thus causing the display to malfunction.

  • Replace the battery of the unit. This unit uses Panasonic Ni-MH batteries (see image below)

  • You can find a battery replacement at your local electronic stores which sells panasonic products in your area. As an alternative you can also get it online for around $7 by clicking this link: Panasonic KX-TGA106 Battery

Once the batteries have been replaced this should hopefully work if the issue is with the battery and not the screen itself. But if problem persists. Please read the next options below.

LAST RESORT: If the screen still show no details images after reset and changing to new batteries, then these are the possible scenarios that might have happen to your handset:

  • The  contacts on the circuit board had become lose or not getting any contact at all thats why no image or info is showing on the screen. This could be due to an impact on the device (fell or slipped of hand) making those contacts lose and not giving direct contact on the LCD display causing no images or details showing.
  • The LCD display could be damaged or has gone bad already. This could be the device is already old or could be exposed to elements affecting the screen (water, corrosion, etc)
  • For both scenarios above, My advice is that your device needs to be to be serviced by a professional. But if you have experience in opening and checking the connections contacts of the device (Not recommended for devices still under Panasonic warranty since this voids warranty service), you can open up and check all connections that leads to the LCD display make sure they are tightly in place.

I hope the answer I have provided will be very helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance or have any additional questions Let me also know if you are already satisfied with my assistance by replying to this message. I will get back to you as soon as I get your response. Thanks.

Thanks for replying Robert. Before going to the point of replacing the handset right away, it would be better to try replacing the batteries first if you already tried resetting the device without success as instructed below. The handset may still be working and its just the battery that isnt able to completely power up the handset causing the display to malfunction. Anyway you can use those new batteries as a spare if the handset is proven defective and they will still be useful on other or a new handset.  Let us know if  you have any additional questions or concern. I will be waiting for your response. Thank you.
