When downloading a spreadsheet either excel or google spreadsheets with my MacBook Pro, I cannot work within the spreadsheet...nothing happens. I was told this could be because I need to reset the permission? How do I do this?

I see. So you can open the document but you cannot edit it. Is that correct?

That is correct.  I am using a software program to collect data and then it will download into a spreadsheet.  To get it to download correctly I need to convert it to excel or google but one it is downloaded, I cannot work in it.  It shows the data but I cannot edit it

The document might be on a read only status. Please try this steps and let me know if this will work.

  1. Open the Finder and select the workbook you want to protect.

  2. On the File menu , click Get Info.

  3. On the General pane, clear the Locked check box.
