My 2005 Acura RL heater blows cold air on the driver's side and hot air on the passenger side and the back - both sides are set to hot. The self diagnostic shows the temperature sensors are working properly, the passenger side air mix is open 100% and the driver side air mix is open 112.5%. What is wrong?

If the ac or heater is blowing hot on the driver side and cold on passenger side or blows cold on the driver side and hot warm on passenger side. Many cars have dual climate controls and as a result they will have 2 actuators that will switch from hot to cold and the other way around. If one of the blend door actuator is not working you will not be able to adjust the temperature on this side and it will stay on hot or cold ( depending on what position it quit)

Here is a video on how to resolve the problem as well.

I'll watch the video.

The local honda dealer told me to replace the compartment heater coil - for just under $2,000. That didn't sound right to me.

Does this mean the blend door actuator on the driver's side is likely bad? Is that the reason for the strange reading for the position (112.5%) during the self-diagnostic?

I've got the repair manual from Acura and have found the photo of the passenger-side blend actuator. Looks like i have to remove the panel below the glovebox on the passenger side. Any tips for finding where the actuator actually sits?

What confuses me is the air conditioning works fine. Only the heater has this problem.

Most likely cause is the  blend door actuator

Okie dokie. I'll give that a try. Looks like a new motor is on the order of $130 and would take a couple days to get here. Is there some way to just set it so it blows warm air until I get a new motor?

Non unless you can manually adjust after taking the panel off.

Customer

Ok. Thanks.

Trying to manually adjust may break the unit all together.

I'll try to be patient then.
