Hi Anthony,
Here are few thing to check that will contribute to the error that you mentioned.
1,bad alternator
2. dying battery
You can check those 2 by opening up OBC#7 on your cluster car idling should be around 12.2v-13.9v turn engine off but leave key postion. Battery should be 12.0v and higher
3. low transmission fluid.
You can send me a reply by entering your message in the box at the top then hit the send response button to send.
Yes I'm here.
What exactly is OBC #7?
My car has been killing the batter too.
battery
When I connect my charger, which will also read the voltage of the car, it says its charging at 13.1 to 13.5 while the car is runningI
I looked it up and yes it fluctuates between 13.1 and 13.8
Seems like that the battery is about to die. How old is the battery? when was the last time you changed it?
Well I have a new one now.
haven't check it since I bought the new one.
I bought the car about a year ago and it had this problem when I got it. Couldn't pass up the deal.
if you keep on loosing charge on your battery, then there is an electrical issue somewhere. Have a mechanic checked the alternator and the wirings of your vehicle.
bad alternator can also drain the battery.
Ok will do
any more questions?
it be bad and still carging?
Can it be bad and still charging?
yes it will still charge the battery. But the moment that the vehicle is idle, it will start to drain the battery.
Ok, I didn't know that.
Anything else that I need to check?
yes.. the circuit diode iin the alternator is the one responsible for maintaining the charge of the battery. if that fails, then that will drain the battery slowly.
I believe that alternator is the main culprit. Have it checked or have the diode replaced inside the alternator and your problem should be fixed.
Any more questions?
Ok I learned something new. I will take it off and take it to an alternator and starter shop I deal with and have them check it.
Will I have pay again if later after checking that I I have another question about the same problem?
Just curious.
just bookmark this page so that you can get back here easily and no need to add any payment.
Ok thanks for the info.
Ok, thanks again.
You are welcome.
Dear Anthony, It was a pleasure helping you with your BMW issue today. Here is a summary of the resolution.
Issue identified : battery keeps loosing charge
Solution Implemented : chat with cx and told him the one of the main culprit is the alternator. the diode might be malfuntioning inside the alternator so when the vehicle is idle it still consuming electricity. cx will ahve the alternator checked. answer accepted.
