There is Facebook activity on my account even though i am not visiting site (activity shows multiple logins from my computer, which is very confusing). Also, two emails within the past two months saying that I am having trouble logging in - even though I was not even trying. Finally, in the "people you may know" section, it is filled with prostitutes and porn stars. These three things combined have put a substantial strain on my marriage. Please help.

I urgely recommend that you change your password immediately.  Apparently someone has your password.    Please change your password to protect yourself.

Ok, thanks ... I have three issues, but I think the first is the trickiest.  My Facebook activity log shows multiple logins over the past several months.  But, I do not suspect foul play.  The logins are in Irvine (where I work), Laguna Beach ( where I live), or other places where I legitimately am.  The issue is - I do not open up the Facebook website ever, yet the acitvity log shows that there are logins from those places.  I never logged out of Facebook (I click "remember my password").  But, it makes it look like I am logging in regularly.  Does that make sense?  I honestly have not been on it in over 4 months.

So ... when I last visited Facebook (~4 months ago), I did not log out and I clicked "remember my password".  I have not visited since ... but my activity log says differently.  But the logins are ALL places where I would be.

Are you logging in by your phone?  Your spouse using your Facebook?  Your children?

No.  In fact, my spouse noticed the activity in my profile and became concerned about what I was doing in Facebook so often (I literally have no friends in Facebook), which is what prompted me to reach out.

Well I would change your password for now.  See if the activity continues or not.

Yes, but the problem is that my wife now believes I was doing bad things in there and she has changed the password.  So, I was really looking for a way to explain what was occurring.  Otherwise, it gives the impression that I stopped because I was "caught".  It is frustrating that this is happening and I cannot figure out why.  I was thinking that maybe my computer was re-logging me in in the background even if I was not visiting facebook - but that sounds farfetched.

Your computer cannot log in your facebook if youre not on the site itself.   If you close window that you use Facebook on Facebook logs you out.   So your wife changed your password. Thats fine, keep track for a few days.  It should go down.  If it's not the case then someone else has access to your facebook other than your wife and you.

Thanks.  I have two other quick questions:

1. Over the past two months, I received emails from Facebook saying that there was a failed login attempt on my account.  I assume that is clearly someone trying to access my account.  Is there a way to verify where they were trying from?

2. In my "Friends you may know" section, it is full of scantily clad women offering sexual services.  In my research, it seems as though Facebook first suggest "friends of friends."  But, in my case, since I have no friends, it is just anyone and apparently these are bots.  Do you have any experience with this?  Again, when looking at the profile, it looks like I solicit sex online or I use porn sites, neither one of which is the case.  Do you have any ideas?

Just to clarify ... in #1, I received two emails over the past 2 months about the failed login attempts.

#1.  It should indicate where the login attempt was coming from.    I havent had anyone try to access my account because my password is too cumbersome for anyone to remember! =)   Oh, I'm using a Macbook, so Im pretty much safe from any viruses or <anything>ware that could spy on my typing (keyloggers) etc.

#2. I've had many of those. I just "remove" them and move on.   I get many requests from shady women which I always decline then mark as spam so they dont bother me.

#3. I will give you a free tip that I give to everyone else with Facebook problems. It would protect you against would be spammers/hackers from copying your profile and then friend requesting them, etc. then push "lottery" or flirt them up, etc.

Simple, go to your timeline, then click Friends, then click the pencil icon next to Find Friends, then click Edit Privacy.  Make sure all the options are set to ONLY ME.    That way no one can see your friends list but you, with exception of mutual friends.

I've had my profile copied a few years ago, and someone alerted me.   I just did the steps above.  No problems ever since!
