My 14 year old mini poodle takes Carprofen PRN for aches. I gave him a 25mg dose at 2230 6/5/20 for what looked like a big bite on his face. It helped, but now he has a blotchy red rash over his body. No breathing issues, but itching is noted at times. I gave him a 12.5mg dose of Benadryl yesterday and this morning. My question is, how long after the dose of Carprofen must we wait to begin prednisone? He has had allergic reactions in the past and that is how it was treated. I know NSAIDS and corticosteroids can’t be given together.

You can give Prednisolone at 1mg/kg after 12 hours. If you worry about ulcerative condition give omeprazole 20mg once off when giving prednisone
