Hello Jason
How are you doing? May I ask when was the last balljoint replacement? If the balljoint is worn out the vehicle has a tendency to move left or right and is hard to control. It has a tendency to wear the tire as well unevenly that's why it follows any uneven line of the road. Do you notice any uneven wearing of your front tires? Do you feel a little vibration on the steering wheel as well? I'll be standing by for your response.
Thank you
Relly
I myself am a mechanic for 25 years but I am stumped on this one the car has brand new tires the ball joints are fine and the car has only 11200 miles on it
No vibration
My theory is perhaps someone did an alignment on it and didn't reset the steering properly so to the machine it would look like the alignment is good but the car the calibration is not
Yes that may be possible John.... If that's the case then it's gonna be fixed the hard way by getting the nearest if not exact spline to correct it. Could be the issue that's why it is hard to control. One more thing about this car......
Transport Canada has issued a recall on certain examples of the Chevrolet Camaro, Cadillac ATS and Cadillac CTS over a purported issue with the vehicles’ electric power steering racks.
The defect: according to Transport Canada, affected vehicles have bolts that attach the electric power steering assist motor to the steering gear, which are prone to corroding and/or breaking.
The hazards: if the bolts break, the vehicle may experience a loss of electric power steering assist. If this occurs the driver may experience a sudden increase in steering weight, requiring more effort to steer the vehicle – especially at low vehicle speeds. This could increase the risk of a crash.
Affected vehicles:
Affected parts: power steering assist motor bolts, steering gear.
Although an equivalent recall has not yet been issued in the United States.
In my end I strongly recommend that you go for the alignment first before jumping into the steering assembly replacement
At low speeds it handles great it's when I'm at high speeds or an accelerating and I make a normal lane changes the car starts to yaw and I feel the car trying to correct itself but it's like over steering especially when I get involved
When you make a U turn do you feel like that the turning radius is off?
I have an appointment with Cadillac in the morning hopefully they can fix it
It feels like the wheels are pointed outward like a V shape
EPS uses an electric motor that draws energy from the vehicle's electrical system to provide the steering assistance. ... Sensors detect the torque, or effort, that the driver is applying at the steering wheel, and a computer decides how much assist needs to be added. It may need a reset Jason to apply the right assistance on high speeds
If it is pointed outward when the steering is straight then it must be an alignment issue. It may feel proper on low speeds but it will definitely change on high speed driving.
Yeah so I bought a scanner to " reset " the steering but software not supported will manually resetting the ecm reset the steering?
If I will you I will try to remove the negative battery connector and let it sit for 10 minutes or so before reconnecting it. This will give a soft reset and may help
Does it need to be in the " on" position when I disconnect?
Put it in "off" Jason
Ok I'll let you know
Alright... I'll be standing by Dave
