Hello Greg,

This can be an issue with the Refrigerator light switch. This switch activates the refrigerator light when the door is open. It also prevents the dispenser from working if the door is open.

Door Switch 6600JB3007A Alternate Product View

TESTING THE SWITCH

The interior light of your refrigerator is controlled by a switch that is activated when the door is opened and closed. If this switch malfunctions the light might not perform correctly at all thus not turning off. Try placing the bulb back in place and press the refrigerator door switch and check if the light turns off. If it does not the switch could be the problem.

SWITCH LOCATION

The location of the switch varies depending on the model of your refrigerator, but it is usually located somewhere near the top of the door opening. The switch is often mounted into the interior plastic liner and care should be taken when removing it to prevent damage to the liner. The switch will be spring loaded and is a normally closed type of switch which means that there should be no continuity when the button is depressed and continuity through the switch when the button is not depressed.

Please let me know if the switch is does not work by replying to this message.  I will do my best to provide you some instructions on how to remove the switch and test it and look where you can get a replacement. I will be waiting for your response. Thank you.

Abe ... Thanks for your response.  I've been out of 'Dodge' for the past several days & unable to attend to our frig. lighting issues.  So, since the frig. has bi-folding doors & 2 light switches ... Are these switches also both sinked-up to the opend door beeper system ?

Hello Greg,

The open door alarm is also linked to those switches if the door sets alarm when open but sometimes an alarm could also be a different issue. The problem would be that the thermistor is warning of high temperature in the compartment. Knowing that the lights stays on with the door closed, this might be affecting the temperature inside the unit.

The most important step is to make sure that the door switch is fixed so that the light wont add any temperature when the door is closed and the temperature problem will be isolated. Please let me know if you have additional questions. I will do my best to provide you with some answers. Thanks

Abe ... Mahallo Again

The reason I asked about the open-door alarm/ beeper ... It continues to work like a 'champ' !   So is there someway this switch discriminates between the lights & the beeper ?

Thanks for clarifying. I was thinking that you were asking if the switch has something to do with the alarm going off because of the heat of the bulb. The door alarm goes off if it senses temperature rise but not through the light door switch. This is a safety feature and there is no adjustment or shutoff for this alarm. The switch is basically for the light and no this wont affect the alarm. I hope this answers your question and sorry I misunderstood a while ago.

Do you have the part number for the light door switch on this model?

Hi Greg,

Heres the Part number just in case you need it for the replacement and some additional info on the switch:

Refrigerator Door Switch

Refrigerator Door Switch Part 6600JB3007A

Part #: 6600JB3007A

The switch pops up to turn on the light inside the compartment when the door is opened. Closing the door pushes in the switch and shuts off the light. You can order this from searspartsdirect.com

I hope this information would help. Please let me know if theres anything else that you would like to ask.

Abe ... Since this is a bi-fold/ two door refrigerator how do I determine which switch has "gone south" / failed ?  And, like I said the open-door beeper on both sides are both working ...

You can try pressing the switch with the refrigerator door open. When pressing the door light switch; the switch that doesnt turn the light off is the broken. If you want to be sure you can use can test it for continuity. When a switch is pressed down it shouldnt have NO continuity but when its not pressed continuity should be present. I hope this helps and let me know.

Actually I did this 2 weeks ago when I noticed the lights remained on when the doors were shut ... So at this point I've opened one door at a time to find the open-door beeper continues to work on both sides.

Thats good to know that the door alarm still works. Its just the door light switch which needs to be replaced. Thats the switch that I posted on my previous messages.

Abe ... You still haven't addressed how I can determined which of the 2 door-swithces have failed on our bi-folding doors ?

This is your refrigerator model correct?

Model # ***-***-**** 0

I am thinking of the switch on the diagram labelled 402A. It is installed in the top hinge for the fresh-food compartment door or the freezer door. The switch pops up to turn on the light inside the compartment when the door is opened. Closing the door pushes in the switch and shuts off the light. To determine if the door switch is defective, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If the door switch does not have continuity when activated, replace it. The other switch is located at the bottom 409B which uses the light on the lower compartment but you can also do the test on the other switch just in case.

I hope this helps.

Just test both switches on the Hinges for continuity since they are both for the lights and it doesnt indicate which ones for which light on the diagram below #402 and they have the same identical parts. You can check this video for testing a light switch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlAcB5rJugI

Abe ...  I was able to check-out the video link you sent & it looks promising.  However, since I don't own a multi-meter to conduct the "Continuity Test" it might be a few days before I can actually perform this "test" !   Mahallo ~~~ Greg
