Expert Terms of Service

Last updated: June 26, 2026

1. Agreement and Scope

These Expert Terms of Service ("Expert Terms") govern your participation as an expert on ExpertHelp (the "Service"). They supplement, and are in addition to, our general Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. By applying to become an expert, completing expert onboarding, or providing services through the Service, you agree to these Expert Terms. If you disagree with any part of them, you may not participate as an expert.

Where these Expert Terms conflict with the general Terms of Service on a matter specific to experts, these Expert Terms control.

2. Expert Eligibility and Accounts

To participate as an expert you must be at least 18 years old, legally able to enter into contracts, and able to provide services in your stated areas of expertise. You must provide accurate, complete, and current information during onboarding and keep it up to date. Acceptance as an expert is at our discretion, and we may review, verify, or decline any application.

You are responsible for all activity under your account and for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials. You may not transfer or share your expert account with anyone else.

3. Independent Contractor Relationship

You participate as an independent contractor. Nothing in these Expert Terms creates an employment, partnership, joint venture, or agency relationship between you and ExpertHelp. You are not entitled to employee benefits, and you are solely responsible for the manner, means, and timing of how you provide your services. You may decline any question or request, and you set your own availability.

4. Providing Expert Services

ExpertHelp supports two kinds of expert engagement, and they work differently:

  • On-platform answers. You answer customer questions on the Service. The customer pays for the answer through ExpertHelp, and you earn a share of that payment (see Section 6).
  • Quotes on customer requests (an introduction service). A customer posts a request and you send a quote. Sending a quote spends one token on the Basic plan (Pro and Business plans include unlimited quotes — see Section 9). If the customer selects you, you pay a connect fee, and from there you and the customer arrange and complete the work — and any payment for it — directly between yourselves. ExpertHelp is paid for the introduction (the token and the connect fee), not for the work you go on to perform.

You agree to:

  • Provide accurate, original, good-faith responses within your areas of expertise
  • Respond within any timeframes presented to you when you take or accept work
  • Communicate professionally and honor the quotes and commitments you make to a customer
  • Comply with all applicable laws, professional standards, and licensing requirements that apply to your field

You are solely responsible for the content and quality of your answers, your quotes, and any work you perform for a customer. ExpertHelp is a marketplace and an introduction service; it does not provide professional advice and is not a party to the work you arrange with a customer through a quote. We do not guarantee any volume of questions, requests, customers, or earnings.

5. Ratings and Expert Tiers

Customers may rate your answers, and your standing on the Service progresses through expert tiers based on the volume and ratings of your accepted answers. Tier thresholds, the criteria for advancement, and any associated benefits are described in your expert dashboard and may be updated from time to time. Ratings, tier status, and related metrics are determined by us in good faith and may be adjusted to correct errors or address abuse.

6. Fees, Earnings, and Payouts

How money works depends on the type of engagement.

On-platform answers. When a customer pays for an answer through the Service, you earn a share of that payment. Your payout rate depends on factors including your expert tier and the type of question (for example, a marketplace question versus a direct question). The current rates that apply to you are shown in your expert dashboard. These earnings are paid out through our payments provider, Stripe, and require you to complete and maintain a connected payout account in good standing, including any identity and tax verification Stripe requires. Earnings become eligible for payout once the associated work is finalized and any applicable customer review or refund window has passed. We may withhold, delay, reverse, or recover payouts in connection with refunds, chargebacks, disputes, suspected fraud, or violations of these Expert Terms. Customers may be entitled to refunds under our Refund Policy; where a customer is refunded, the corresponding earning may be reduced or reversed.

Quotes and introductions. Posting a request is free for customers. You pay to take part: sending a quote spends one token on the Basic plan (Pro and Business plans include unlimited quotes), and if a customer selects you, you pay a connect fee. The fees that apply are shown to you before you send a quote and in your dashboard. The work you then perform for that customer, and any payment for it, are arranged directly between you and the customer and are not processed by ExpertHelp. You are responsible for reporting outcomes (such as whether you won the work) where the Service asks you to. Because ExpertHelp is paid through the token and the connect fee for making the introduction, completing quote-based work and being paid for it off-platform, after you connect with the customer, is expected and permitted.

7. Taxes

You are solely responsible for determining, reporting, and paying all taxes, levies, and similar charges arising from your earnings on the Service. We, or our payments provider, may collect tax information from you and issue tax forms (such as a Form 1099) where required by law. Nothing we provide constitutes tax advice.

8. Founding Expert Program

From time to time we may invite or allow experts to become "Founding Experts" in a category that is in an active founding phase. Founding Experts claim a limited "charter" in a category, subject to the per-category seat limits and the per-user limits in effect at the time. Participation is optional and the program may be modified, paused, or discontinued at our discretion.

Founding Experts may receive certain founding benefits, which may include reduced tier thresholds for that category, enhanced placement, and a gift of founding tokens, also called founding quote credits (described in Section 9). Reduced thresholds and other benefits attach to the specific founding charter. If you reach a higher tier while holding a charter, you keep that standing in accordance with the program terms shown during onboarding.

9. Tokens, Quotes, and Founding Credits

Tokens. A token is the unit you spend to send a quote: on the Basic plan, one token lets you send one quote on a customer request. "Credit" is simply another word we use for a token — they are the same thing. Pro and Business plans include unlimited quotes and do not spend tokens. Tokens can be purchased, and may also be granted as a promotional benefit. The number of tokens you have, the cost of a token, and which plans include unlimited quotes are shown in your expert dashboard and may change.

Founding credits. As a promotional benefit, a Founding Expert may be granted a number of founding tokens (also called founding quote credits) when they claim their charter, in an amount we determine and show you at that time. These founding tokens are a promotional gift. They are not money and have no cash value. They are non-cashable, non-withdrawable, and non-refundable, cannot be transferred, sold, or exchanged, and may be used only to send quotes on the Service and for no other purpose. We may modify, expire, or revoke unused tokens, and we may change the number granted, at any time. They do not represent earnings, a balance owed to you, or any right to a payout.

If your founding charter ends or is revoked (see Section 10), any unspent founding tokens associated with that charter are forfeited and may be reclaimed.

10. Founding Charter Revocation

We may revoke a founding charter at our discretion. When we do, we record a reason, which will generally be one of the following:

  • Inactivity — the charter was claimed but never meaningfully used
  • Policy violation — a breach of these Expert Terms or our other policies
  • Fraud or abuse — fraudulent, deceptive, or abusive activity
  • Voluntary — you asked to give up the charter
  • Other — another reason, which we will record

Revoking a founding charter does not by itself remove you from the Service: unless we terminate your account under Section 11, you remain a standard expert in the category and keep the standard standing you have earned. As described in Section 9, unspent founding tokens tied to a revoked charter are forfeited.

11. Confidentiality and Customer Information

You will receive customer questions, requests, and other information in order to provide your services. You agree to use that information only to provide services through the Service, to keep it confidential, and not to use it for any other purpose or disclose it to third parties except as required by law. You must handle any personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable law.

12. Prohibited Conduct

As an expert, you agree not to:

  • Misrepresent your identity, credentials, qualifications, or expertise
  • Submit plagiarized, deceptive, automated, or low-effort responses
  • Manipulate ratings, tiers, or the Founding Expert Program (including through sham or duplicate accounts)
  • Circumvent the Service's fees — for example, by arranging with a customer off-platform to avoid the token or connect fee for an introduction, or by taking a paid on-platform answer engagement off-platform to avoid our share. (Completing quote-based work off-platform after you connect with a customer is expected and permitted — see Section 6.)
  • Violate any applicable law, regulation, or professional or licensing requirement
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to, or interfere with, any part of the Service

13. Content and Licensing

You retain ownership of the answers and other content you create. By submitting content through the Service, you grant ExpertHelp a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, host, reproduce, display, and distribute that content for the purposes of operating, promoting, and improving the Service, including displaying answers to customers and, where applicable, publishing answers publicly. You represent that you have the rights necessary to grant this license and that your content does not infringe the rights of others.

14. Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or terminate your expert account or any benefit, charter, or credit at any time, with or without notice, for any reason, including a breach of these Expert Terms. You may stop participating as an expert at any time by contacting us at [email protected]. On termination, your right to provide services through the Service ends, unspent founding tokens are forfeited, and any eligible earnings already finalized will be paid out subject to this section and our payout and refund terms.

15. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, and we do not guarantee any amount of work, customers, ratings, tier advancement, or earnings.

16. Limitation of Liability

In no event shall ExpertHelp, its directors, employees, partners, agents, suppliers, or affiliates be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, use, or other intangible losses, arising out of your participation as an expert or your use of the Service.

17. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless ExpertHelp and its affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including attorneys' fees) arising out of your services, your content, your violation of these Expert Terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of a third party.

18. Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to modify or replace these Expert Terms at any time. We will provide notice of material changes by posting the updated Expert Terms on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued participation as an expert after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Expert Terms.

19. Governing Law

These Expert Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
