Dear Register of Record,

The domain name marbledpaper.com.au is currently registered with GoDaddy. I am trying to recapture this website which I have used for the past twelve years, but which was inadvertently not renewed in November and was captured by another person/agent. Twice I have objected as the site content did not reflect the domain name (www.marbledpaper.com.au . I am a professional paper marbler.) I paid a company to capture the name last time it was released, but they failed to do so.

Is there any way you can be sure to get the domain for me if I give you details? According to a letter from auDA, dated 18 April, it is due to be purged from the domain registry and released to the public on Sunday 1 MAY , 14 days after the letter from auDA. It seems that purging begins at 1pm AEST every day. I have copied and pasted the relevant paragraph. Would you please advise me about the above? Thanks in advance, Joan Ajala

a) “Expiry Cycle” means an automated process at the registry where eligible domain names enter the “Expired Hold” or “Expired Pending Purge” state. The Expiry Cycle is every 5 minutes on every day, including weekends and public holidays; b) “Official Domain Drop List” means the authoritative list of domain names that are due to be purged from the registry, which is published on the auDA website. c) “Purge Cycle” means an automated process at the registry where domain names are purged from the registry. The Purge Cycle runs at 1.00pm AEST (2.00pm AEDT) on every day, including weekends and public holidays. Would you please advise me about the above? Thanks in advance, Joan Ajala

  • Hi Byron,  The Godaddy website indicated that I would get an expert from them, but I hope you will still be able to give me good advice on how to assure that I will recapture my previous website.   Joan

Hi Joan,

I'll take over for your case.

The www.marbledpaper.com.au  is still pending for deletion in the registry  as I've checked (please see screenshot below)

and if you received the notice that the domain  will be available on May 1 2016. I would advise you to go to www.au.godaddy.com/‎ ‎  2 days before the said date  at 1PM AEDT  until May 1 and check it  periodically and must buy the domain asap.  It's always a first come  first serve basis so make sure you're ahead of time.

Other option is the "Domain Buy Service " by Godaddy. Which they wil contact the Registrant contact name of taken domain and they'll ask if its for sale or do what they can to get it for you BUT  you'll spend more on this type of service not including commissions they need.

Hi Joan just a follow up were you able to get the www.marbledpaper.com.au  domain back?

No, I tried today at 1pm only to see that it is taken.   This also showed up on the godaddy search option at 12.50pm, so the name must have been released into the public domain from the registry of auDA earlier than the stated purge time of 1pm.   I will contact them to find out.  Thanks, but I have spent heaps trying to secure this website with absolutely no result.   Joan

I've seen most of the hosting sites saying its available and can be registered. Have you checked it with auDA?

I can't find out on any of the sites how to buy the domain name.   On Godaddy it shows as taken   J

Can you tell me how to buy a domain?  None of the sites Godaddy,  Netfleet or drop.co show me how to do this.  J

Have you tried checking it with auDA and crazydomains.com.au and see if you can buy the domain?

Yes, thanks.  It was under Godaddy so I don't know where Crazydomains comes in.  I ended up by asking Netfleet to be the registrar of the domain instead of godaddy, and by some miracle the site was available (even tho godaddy kept telling me it was taken and even offered to contact the 'owner' to negotiate a sale. What a criminal outfit is that!), so it is in the process of being changed to Netfleet.

A nightmare of a few days, and it is still a mystery how it all works.   At least six different opinions and directions from different entities.  Netfleet hasn't asked for payment as the new registrar - I thought I would have to pay for that.   I guess I will now have to arrange with an ISP.   I already have my original site content with a hosting agent to be transferred to the domain name when it is finalised.   Any comments?   Give me the old phone,  paper and pen plus snail mail over this modern deathly swift and impenetrable internet system.  Anyway, thanks for trying to help me.    Joan

No wrries. I agree.Sometimes, they may even be "squatting" on domain names hoping to make a quick buck off of you or the person that wants to buy it. Unless there's a trademark issue involved, Good thing you were able to register and got a hosting agent to finalised everything.
