Inner join gives you only matching record while Outer join gives you Matching Records + Non Matching Records(Based on Outer Join type)

Outer join can be divided into following categories..
1) Right Outer Join
2) Left Outer Join
3) Full Outer Join

An inner join of A and B gives the result of A intersect B, i.e. the inner part of a venn diagram intersection.
An outer join of A and B gives the results of A union B, i.e. the outer parts of a venn diagram union.
