My 2012 500 died today after running several errands. There were no indications of problems prior to failure to start. It will not start even after a new battery was installed. The gearshift is stuck in park, but the car rolls freely. Is there a connection between the gearshift and starter? Does the car think it is in drive and therefore the starter won't engage? I had AAA tow it in for service. Is this a known problem?

Hi Richard,

It is common  problem with that model. The shifter cable to the shifter assembly should be the culprit if you're running new batteries and still stuck and wont start. If the shifter cable is broke the entire cable is disconnected and will not let you shift the gear and start the 500.

It should be an easy fix by your mechanic  but it depends first on how big  was the damage.
