I have a 2009 Camry LE. The anti-theft is activated and now the car will not start. How do I reset the anti-theft security? It was activated when I opened the locked driver's door with the key and then tried to start the car.

Have you checked the fuses?
Have you tried using another key?
Have you tried to disconnect the battery cables from the battery and rub them together for 5 minutes?
This might reset all modules on board the vehicle and may allow it to "reboot" and start up again. If not, you could have a faulty ignition key or transponder
I'm sorry charles but, your information did not show up until now. I have checked the fuses. I toggled the ignitioin switch 5 times about 30 minutes and the car started. I moved it and shut it off and now it will not start again.
I have not tried rubbing the cables together so, I will go do that now.
Please let me know thre results
Please let me know the results
If that does not work, sounds to me like a faulty module
That did not work.
I noticed that just prior to this happening the brake and ABS lights came on. They would come on as I drove and would go off when I stopped. Can this have anything to do with this problem?
When you say module. Which module are you referring to?
Please allow me a few minutes to look up the part One moment please.
Charles. Are you still there?
Yes I am sorry for taking so long.
Pleasse try these steps to reset the anti theft system:
I want to try to troubleshoot this before purchasing any parts.
Well, I would love for this to work however, the stereo does not have an "up" button. It has a dial. And for power it's a dial as well. Now what?
Do you think the dial will work like the button?
Please try and see
I am getting more steps to resolve right now one moment please.
OK I'll be back in a few.
What is the unlock code?
Let me find it one moment
Thanks
Please have a look at this video. Shows how to reset the ecu using a paperclip.
No need to buy any parts. The video is for 2002 and newer Toyota's this should work.
Sweet. Keep Your fingers crossed.
Yes sir I wll be here.
Also, can you send me the VIN?
4T1BE46K490862097
Thank you one moment.
Is this with or without smart key?
Without
Thank you one moment
It is the transponder key ecu
So, if none of the procedures work then it is your belief that the Transponder ECU is bad?
To recap, if the video does not workthen most likely this part will need to be replaced. You make be able to find a used one as well.
OK. Then I best get busy.
yes sir I will be here
I have it set up. Just have to wait 30 minutes.
This sounds good hopefully resolved the issue.
Did not work.
Let me find some more solutions
More than likely that module needs to be replaced
I may try it again with the other key. Yeah I'm thinking you're right.
I am trying to see if you can the part cheaper rather than auto parts store
cheaper online i mean
I'm going to look at Rock Auto and eBay.
Ebay would be great
Rock auto as well.

Hi Charles, I want to thank you for your help with my Camry and I have a couple questions, if you don't mind. First, how do I access the Transponder Key ECU? Second, I have found the module and for a good price but, the site has 2 different ones available. Each one is supposed to fit my Camry. How do I know which one is correct? Thanks for your help.
Wayne
To access the transponder key ecu that the previous mechanic showed in the picture, you need to remove the gauge cluster.
Sorry for taking so long to respond today.
The part that you need is below.

Charles,
I have the part ordered. Unfortunately, it will not be here until Wednesday. Any way I removed the instrument cluster. Obviously, the ECU is not in plain sight; at least I can not see it. So, where do I go from here? Do I need to remove other things? Where in the dash will I find the bloomin' thing? By the way - thanks for your help.
Sorry for taking so long to get back to you.
To the left of the gauge cluster, might be easier to see from below by the steering coloumn
Thanks for getting back to me and there is certainly no need to apologize I'm certain you have more to do than read email. Heck, I'm just happy you answer. Ok, I'm going to see if I can find it. Oh yeah, am I going to have to have the keys reprogramed (?) or will they still function properly. If I do; break it to me easy. Thanks
They need to be programmed too

The key will have to be reprogrammed
Charles,
I have been working on replacing the ECU now for 2 days. I can not find it anywhere. The only module I found was on that has ABS on it and it's on the passenger side. So, have I lost my mind? I see nothing that even resembles the part I have. I do not see it to the left of the steering column behind the instrument cluster. Can you give me something a little more specific? I have worn the keys out on my laptop trying to find the location of the module. so far, I have been shown that it is on the passenger side of the dash, the left side of the steering column, the center of the instrument cluster against the firewall and three or four other places. Please helpo me find this thing.
Wayne
Hey sorry for taking so long to get back with you. Ok do you want the cars ecu or the key transponder?? Last time you wanted the ecu but now i see you are asking for the key transponder
No Problem. I am unable to see the Transponder Key ECU because I believe it is against the firewall behind some equipment. I just want to confirm this. If not, then I need to locate the sorry thing. Unfortunately, I have discovered that the Transponder Key ECU has a few different designations eg. immobilizer unit, anti-theft deterrent module etc. It has proven to be difficult to find good factual information that is correct. The one I have had the most trouble with is the location of the module. You have told me the straight skinny so, I trust what you tell me. This should be the last time I bug you about this.
Let me find the information for you.
I have reported the page as being fake and also being outdated page as well. Please keep an eye out for your email address as the page is taken down.
Please disregard last message. Typo error.
Charles,
Thanks for all your help I really do appreciate it. I finally got the module out. It was between the air conditioning unit and the firewall. There is only enough space to get one's fingers in the space. I found it by getting a wiring diagram and comparing the colors of the wires to the diagram. I'm sure you know what a huge hassel it is to take the dash out. It is inconceiveable to me why that would be the location for the module. If I did not know better I would say some prankster auto worker decided to make it difficult for someone by putting it between the proverbial rock and hard place. At any rate, thank you forputting up with me.
Take care and stay safed,
Wayne
Very welcome.
Kevin
