I had a intermittent starting problem with my 320d(2003) and was advised that the key needed recoding. The key was recoded and the recall for the airbags were replaced at the same time.I was asked to collect the car but it wouldn’t start. The garage following running some tests then said the camshaft and crank shaft sensors needed replacing at a cost of £591. I agreed taking on their expert advice. The car still failed to start following the replacement of the sensors 10 days later they discovered that it was a faulty ECU which they repaired or recoded.Should the initial diagnostic test have picked up the problem with the ECU before replacing the sensors which didn’t solve the intermittent starting.I’m a retired Midwife who has no knowledge of the technical issues of cars but it has been suggested that the ECU problem should have been identified by the initial diagnostic test.Thank you
