Does the encoder motor sound like its trying to shift into 4wd? and are the lights on the switch illuminated?

I put the encoder motor in yesterday, Yes it clunks when you press 4 wheel high, but the light stays flashing

okay, one thing i would try to do is 'reset' the transfer case control module by unplugging it for a few minutes, and reconnecting.

it may be possible that you have a binding transfer case, so we might need to try to shift it manually. The transfer case module will

be located in the dash to left of the instrument panel cluster. Ive had a few lock up on me in the past and just needed reset after an

encoder motor replacement. i will also try to locate a picture or diagram of the transfer case control module

By your description the wiring may be ok becuase the encoder motor is "trying" to operate.

I know where the tccm is. I also looked in a gm book and it said ti remove the transfer case fuse for 3 minutes, then cycle the ignition 5 times with a 5 second delay between clicks. I have done that and disconnected the battery for 20 minutes

okay, have you actually disconnected the tccm and reconnected it? it really sounds like an issue in that sort, and just want to rule that out

and simple and ineffective as that may sound...

I will try that. I have built and driven super late models for over 30 years, give me an msd box, carb and no damn computer anyday. It was so much easier with a handle connected to the transfer case. I will get back to you. Thanks

Dear Ron Rice,

It was a pleasure helping you with you 4 wheel drive issue today.

Here is summary of the resolution

Issue identified:

4wd high and low inoperative, 4wd high light stays flashing

Solution implemented:

Disconnect transfer case control module for 2+ minutes, check connections and reconnect then retest 4wd operation.

If issue resurfaces:

Recommend replacing Transfer Case Control Module, and checking connector pins for integrity.

Thank you Ron!

Hi Ron , first off I would remove the transfer case fuse for 3 minutes, then cycle the ignition 5 times with a 5 second delay between clicks. If that does not do anything mechanically wise I would say to look for anything unusual under the car, loose bolts, bad wiring ect. The transfer case control modules in the k1500's have been known to have bad connections at the control box . One other thing I would double check is the actuator as in my experience they aren't the most reliable pieces in cars. I hope this advice has and hopefully will help you with your issues.
