The dealer replaced the dragging splash engine sheild on my 2014 accord sport with a new one. One week later after driving 70 mph on the turnpike for 3 hrs. the right front fender liner was sagging and hitting the tire. Could the work on the splash engine shield have resulted in failure of the right fender liner which is now partially shredded and loose OR is it a coincidence?

Hi Dan,

There are faster rivet clips/retainer on the inner fender liner. The guys from the dealership might not put the clips properly which is a very common reason for the fender liner to sag and hit the tires. If you are going to replace the fender liners, make sure that the rivet clips/retainers are properly secured so that the liner will not sag.

Let me know if you have further questions.

does replacing the splash engingine shield involve doing anything with the fender liner that could have left the liner vulnerable to fail?

In my personal experience there are 2 clips at the bottom of the inner fender liner same hole where the splash engine guard fastner clips is also connected. They might not have not secured the clips or they might forgot to inlcude the fender liner when they installed the splash guard. Reason for the fender liner to sag.

Here's the picture of the fender liner and there should be fastener clips/retainers at the bottom (circle in red). If the clips are not secured or if they forgot to attached the fender liner to the engine splash guard when they installed it, then it will star to sag especially when driving on high speed and will start to hit the tire.

Let me know if you ahve further questions.
