TV worked fine yesterday morning. When turning back on later in day - satellite receiver came on but TV receiver stayed red. Satellite remote or TV remote would not turn on receiver. Unplugged for 10 minutes-plugged back in-still red light. TV/receiver are 10yrs old. Do you think the main board in receiver has gone bad? I can call you now if available or send me email response.
Tom,
Just to confirm all cables are properly connected? from TV to Receiver?
yes - nothing was touched
Do you have the model number of the receiver?
PA831WJ
Thanks. Any power outage before the problem started?
no there was not
Have you tried doing a reset to the receiver to see if there's any difference?
I am not aware of a reset button - if so - where would it be? Nothing happens when pushing the "power" button. Light just stays red.
Open up the front lid. It's at the bottom of the S video connector and L+R audio
Were you able to find it using the picture below?
are you still there?
Thanks. Found it. Using a pen I first pushed the reset button - nothing happened. Then the reset button with no response. Was that the correct thing to do?
Second button was "system" reset - no response
Can you try unplugging it fro the power source and hold down the power button for 20 secs.
will do
no luck - still red light
If checking the physical connections, resetting the device, and draining the flea power willnot make any changes to its current status then it will be a hardware failure. It's a board problem and will need a repair the problem will be the part availabilty as this product is no longer manufactured.
With the decrease in TV prices do you think I am better off buying a new one rather than a costly repair for an old model?
I would recommend buying a new one instead of investing more money to the old device and good thing about a new one is the warranty too.
Thanks so much for your service Byron. I greatly appreciate it. Have a great day! Tom
