Hey,
I'm having problems setting up my HTC Smart with my Gmail account. I can see my emails, but I can't send them. Does anyone know what settings I need to change so that I can send emails too? This is my inbuilt gmail app.

Thanks.

Robert,
It seems that you have problem with IMAP POP.
Following is the description and setting for your gmail account
IMAP - basically renders a copy of your normal web inbox in your Outlook/mobile etc mail client. As it's a direct copy of your main email account, it also syncs all changes between all clients i.e deletes etc affect all PC's/mobile devices etc - PRO - Keeps all mail clients synchronized CON- but can be slow
POP - Downloads a copy of each mail into your inbox on each device and then all new ones after first complete download. Does not syncronise across all email clients, i.e. delete from one device(mobile) and it will still be on a home PC using Outlook and POP.

For your HTC SMART, you will need to enter either POP or IMAP for your incoming mail and SMTP for outgoing mail. Watch those encryption types and port setting, which I believe you find in 'advanced' when setting up an account.

For Gmail you need the following settings:

POP mail:
incoming Mail (POP3) Server - requires SSL: pop.gmail.com
Use SSL: Yes
Port: 995
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS or SSL: smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
Use Authentication: Yes
Port for TLS/STARTTLS: 587
Port for SSL: 465
Account Name: your full email address (including @gmail.com or @yourdomain.com)
Email Address: your email address (u**[email protected] or u**e@your
domain.com)
Password: your Gmail password

IMAP:
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - requires SSL: imap.gmail.com
Use SSL: Yes
Port: 993
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS: smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
Use Authentication: Yes
Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL)
Port: 465 or 587
Account Name: your full email address (including @gmail.com) Google Apps users, please enter u**e@yourdomain.com
Email Address: your full Gmail email address (u**[email protected]) Google Apps users, please enter u**e@your
domain.com
Password: your Gmail password
Hope this helps anybody struggling.
