my 1999 vw eurovan with 12 valve vr6 is having poor idle issues. They seem to worsen as it warms but occasionally it will kill just after startup then start and run fine. It also very occasionally will Stall when pulling up to a stop sign or cruising at low rpm thru a parking lot. The most common cel that comes up is malfunction egr system, but I also have gotten multiple random misfires and too rich on bank one. I have cleaned and inspected egr and vacuum checked it and the solenoid. Replaced vacuum lines, smoke tested the vacuum system, replaced injectors, sparkplugs and wires and coil pack. Car seems to run fine otherwise. accelerates well and runs smoothly. Also have replaced mass air sensor and cleaned throttle body and intake ports. HELP

Hi John

How are you doing? May I ask if you still get error codes on your scanner? Is there any history of crankshaft position sensor replacement? I'll be standing by for your response.

Thank you

Ok John... is the newly installed engine new or from the yard?

Customer

from a yard I think the people who changed my engine did the looking and the transfer

Ok, the crankshaft position installed on the engine may about to fail as well. This issues you are having now can be from a failing ECM or bad crankshaft position sensor. A bad crankshaft position sensor will not give you any cel but since you have one I am suspecting that the ECM is not communicating to the engine properly. You fixed all the necessary things needed and it should be running properly by now. There's a possibility of ECM replacement needed John. Can you get one from the yard and check if it will still throw codes before you pay for it

that has been the problem, thought about changing it but so expensive.  No local yard has one.  I'll look on ebay but will be a while

before I'm able to locate.  I'll also pull the ecm and make sure there's no corrosion.

Notes:

- Chat and talk to John

- Fixes made should have solved the issue but to no avail

- The ecm may not be communicating with the sensors that's why it keeps the cel on. It may be giving false codes as well.

- Agreed to replace the ecm

- Call and chat ended
