Hello, I downloaded my archive and there is a folder named about_you. In that folder there is a file called address book. There are a few people that are named with no phone number or any other info but their names. They are not my friends on FB and not in my phone contacts list. I have looked into it and found that we are connected on messenger. Can you please explain why these names appear and why I’m connected to them on messenger as I believe the content has been deleted from the messages but the connection remained on messenger

The feature, confirmed by BuzzFeed News today, allows you to connect with others from within the app without actually adding them to your friend list on Facebook itself. In essence, the feature allows Messenger users to connect with each other on the app, as if they were already friends, but without actually adding them as friends on Facebook proper.

Facebook already allows this, although in a modified format. When non-friends message, you’re met with a message request that allows you to read and accept or ignore any future correspondence. If you don’t accept, future messages will go to the space formerly occupied by your “other” inbox. If accepted, the messages will filter through to your standard inbox.

The new feature would basically allow for the same thing, but through the use of contacts. Once you add a contact, they can message you freely without the need to formally connect.

When you download your archive, the messages that are not from frinds on your Facebook account are just stored on your phone rathe than your actual Facebook account until you add them as a friend on your friends list.

Hello, I will give you a better example as I need a clear answer for my question. What I'm trying to establish is that there has been messages sent via messenger and that's how the connection on messenger is established. Please see pictures attached. In the photos it shows Brendon Dezious on the address book and it is time stamped with date and time. The other shows the connection on messenger. I have looked at other people on the address books and when they connection was established, the times and dates are identical on the address book and messenger when the other person has replied accepting the request.

These contacts on messenger are stored by your phone and not in Facebook itself unless you add them as a friend

Sorry mate, I'm at work at the moment. I don't belive this guy is not a contact as there is no phone number connected on the address book. There are phone numbers of contacts that are on the phone contacts. This address book can only be viewed from your archive. The other one you might be thinking of is a messenger contact list wich has phone numbers and automatically connects you on messenger

These could be random people messagin you trying to steal information as faceboko has had many problems with this over last few months.  I have experienced this as well .

this is the uploaded contacts for messenger. As you can see this person is not on it. It's a different list. These are connected by phone number or email. The man has neither

Hey mate, to be honest. The address book is my wife's and I'm trying to prove through your expert opinion that she has contact with the man in the address book Brendon Dezious. She knows I have her password and archive so I have not done this without her knowledge. She has a history of lying about other men. I have had to provide hard evidence to catch her out on her lies. She has never once told me the truth and then I have to resort to this. We are not together anymore as I have ended the marriage due to the lies that I keep finding.
So I need your expert opinion to confirm that she had contact with the man named in the list (Brendon Dezious) on the date and time shown in the address book. The messages have been deleted so I can't link the message times to the address book. They are not friends on FB nor are his contacts in her phone. To my opinion the only way they could be connected is either he sent a msg or she sent the message and either one approved it by reply. I believer that they get added to the list so they do not have to accept another request and can keep talking.

So at minimum I want you to confirm that contact had been made due to the connected status being that there is no phone number or email linking them and are not FB friends. I can't think of another way they could be connected other then contact being made

Contact has been through facebook messenger, but seems steps were taken to keep identity low of the other person at a minimum.  There was contact yes.

I am sorry for taking so long to get back with you as well.

If you think that there could be another way that could be there, I would like to know so that I can understand it. I have been able to match the address book times and dates to the messages when the request is accept by the other person when they reply. I believe Brendon Dezious messages were deleted by my wife and the connection stayed.

I beleieve that she tried to delete the messages but facebook does keep a slight record even if someone tried to delete the message.

It will still show the perosn contact name.  The message might be deleted but they will still be there as a contact.

I wish I could retrieve the deleted message for you, but if it was deleted, just the person's contact name will only show most of the time.

Thanks heaps mate
