Is it possible for someone to have never used Secret conversation on Facebook messenger, and for it to state “first seen by this device"? It displays a date. Once, you click on it, it displays a set of keys that has a combination of letters and numbers.

The secret conversation is designed to display a lot of things. One of the many things that you’ll notice when using Facebook messenger’s secret conversation feature is “first seen by this device”. But what exactly does that mean?

Well, “first seen by this device” is a feature in the secret conversation; it tells you exactly when the person in question (the owner of the device) first enabled the secret conversation toggle button.

As earlier mentioned, when joining the secret conversation for the first time, you need a Messenger app. From the app, you need to locate the secret conversation feature, which usually comes with a lock icon. To enable the feature, you need to tap the toggle switch in the secret conversation.

The “first seen by this device” is often displayed to show exactly when a user tapped the toggle switch for the first time to enable the secret conversation feature on the device

 

 

You’ll see a date beside the “first seen by this device;” that’s the exact date the feature was first enabled on the device.

The bottom line is that the “first seen by this device” is a feature that notifies you of when a device first enabled the secret conversation feature.

The date stamp just means, that’s when the secret conversations were first seen on that device. For example if it says First Seen May 8, 2020 that means that is when the person in question enabled the Secret Conversations toggle. The date updates every time it is enable hence the “First Seen” part. You can also check who that specific person is talking to by opening a regular conversation. click on that person’s name opening the message menu. Select “open secret conversation” and although the messages may be gone, you can select the device keys on each of them and it will show you when they began communicating. If you open the other persons device key and don’t see a date before the day you are checking, you opened it and began the conversation. For example, if you login on May 8 and the device keys say “device first seen on May 1” they’ve been communicating through secret chat since that day. Hope this helps.
