I have a Garmin Nuvi 1300, which needs to be updated for North America. How do I do that?

Please see procedure below to update the maps:

1. Connect your Garmin Nuvi GPS device to your computer using the USB cable that came with your device.
2. Wait for your computer to recognize the Garmin Nuvi. If the connection was successful, the screen of your Garmin Nuvi will display the Garmin logo and an image of a computer.
3. Install the Garmin Agent application when prompted to by your computer. The Garmin Agent app will be responsible for updating your Nuvi with updated maps. •If your computer does not automatically prompt you to install Garmin Agent, go to http://www.garmin.com/agent to install the Garmin Agent software.
4. Follow the prompts provided by Garmin Agent to finish installing the software on your computer. After Garmin Agent has been installed, your system tray will display the application every time you connect the Garmin Nuvi to your computer
5. Click on the Garmin Agent icon located in your computer’s system tray to return to the MyGarmin landing page.
6. Verify that updates are available for your Garmin Nuvi under the section labeled “Map Updates.” If there are updates available, you will have the option to purchase the updates, or download them if you have previously purchased the lifetime update feature from Garmin.
7. Click on “Buy Now” to purchase the map updates from Garmin. You will be presented with an option to purchase a one-time update or lifetime updates through Garmin.
8. Click on “Add to Cart” next to the update option you want to purchase for your Garmin Nuvi device. A one-time update may cost approximately 70 dollars, and a lifetime update may cost approximately 120 dollars.
9. Click on “Download” next to the map update displayed on the landing page. Your computer will begin preparing your Nuvi for the downloading process.
10. Click on “Download” when prompted to download the Garmin Map Update Application. This will be the third and final piece of software you’ll be required to download for the updates.
11. Follow the prompts provided by the Garmin Map Update Application to finish updating your Nuvi with the latest maps.
12. Wait for Garmin to inform you that the updates process has been completed. Map updates for the North America region are generally about 2GB in size, and may take at least 1 hour to download to your device
13. Disconnect your Garmin Nuvi GPS device from your computer. Your device will now be updated with the latest maps and ready for use.
