Abe,

It doesn't help. With a proprietary connector does that mean I am unable to use a Samsung SSD 840EVO as an upgrade?

Is there any way of upgrading the Asus UX31A?

Thank you for replying. Looking at the unit, it looks like the ASUS Zenbook UX31A has a custom SSD Drive. The hard drive 128 or 256gb SSD is like a memory stick with a new special connection which is not sata or msata. The UX31A comes with either a Sandisk U100 or a ADATA XM11 (Sandforce 2281 controller) Proprietary SSD * Hard to disassemble custom SSD Drive and a Samsung SSD 840EVO as an upgrade may not be possible.

The only option of selecting the SSD drives is to choose between a Sandisk U100 or a ADATA XM11. The Sandisk U100 is truely one of the worst SSDs that you can get these days. Although still better than a traditional HDD, when compared to the ADATA XM11 or the Samsung 840 you can see how poorly it performs as a SSD.

SSD performance comparison: Sandisk vs ADATA

I would still suggest an ADATA XM11 as the best SSD for this unit.

Samsung drive has a SATA interface. You need to mount the drive to your computer chassis and use a SATA cable to connect it. In general I have heard of SSD products featuring PCIe, mini PCIe, miniDIMM. There are PCI to PCIe adapter cards, but I am not sure that it wouls still fit the UX31A and the final speed will satisfy your expectations.

I hope this information helps. If you find the information provided helpful, Please do not forget to show your appreciation for my efforts by clicking the green Accept Answer button right below my first response above. Thank you.

Thanks. Did push accept. What % of my $37.50 do they give to you?

They ask if I wanted to give a tip. Does that mean you answer the question only for tips?
