I have tried 2 different brand new SIM cards without success. The card is inserted correctly and has been inserted with the power off. The unit connects to the internet ok via the WiFi and the wireless router in the house, but refuses to recognise the sim such that I may connect via the 3G service. the Tab 2 is 2nd hand, less than 1 year old.

Please check if one or both cards work by inserting it on a phone. Once the cards are confirmed working, Try these steps:

  1. Turn off the Tab
  2. Insert the sim card
  3. Turn the Tab ON

If it stills gives the Insert Sim Card message try these steps:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down and the Power key for approximately 10 to 15-seconds.
  2. Turn the Tab ON
  3. Try to check if the Insert Sim Card message disappears

Let me know what happens so that we could provide another solution.

To know narrow down the issue, Please let us know where the Tab was purchased and what service provider was this tab using before. The Tab may be locked to a different network.

I hope the information given helps. If the answer to your question was informative and helpful, please show your appreciation for my efforts by clicking the green Accept Answer button right below my first response. Thank you.

Hi Abe,

Neither of the recommended solutions above worked. I bought the unit on Ebay and I don't know where it was originally purchased. It was advertised as not being locked to any provider.
I bought the correct sim card for it and paid for a 1 month subscription from Telstra. Telstra has the best coverage in Australia. I bought a Galaxy SIII 4G phone yesterday from the local Telstra shop and they replaced the sim in the Tab 2 at the same time. They confirmed that both the earlier and the new Tab 2 sims were active, but couldn't get the Tab 2 to access the network services, still the same error message. I have checked one or two of the on-line forums using my PC, and there are several incidences of this issue, but no useful solutions.
Regards,
Dave

Hi again, I apologize for the delay. Please give me the details on your Galaxy tabs "About" screen.

Go to settings > About and give me all the details and the information that you see there. This may add some information so we could determine the issue. Also open dial pad and type #06# that should show an imei

I'll be waiting for those information needed. Thank you.

Hi Dave,

Sorry for the late response, I have done some research on this product and found out that a lot of people are having the same issues that you're having.

The "Not registered on network" message indicates that the sim card did not register on the tab 2. Since the sim cards were ok and active, I am also thinking that it has something to do with the firmware of the tab or a hardware issue. Have you tried updating the tab through KIES?

Having checked online without any solutions for this issue, I went to a shop myself and tested a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 and inserted a sim card, It didn't register although my Galaxy S3 detects it. I tried going through the Settings > Mobile Networks. Since I wasn't able to access Mobile Networks removed and reseated the Sim card (pushed it in and it clicked as if locking the simcard to position) turned the tab On and was able to get a coverage after a minute or two. Asked some technicians experienced on working with Samsung mobile devices about hearing any sim card issues and the answer I got was most people returning the device got a sim card stuck in the SD card slot or a bricked device because of an attempt to root it.

I was about to confirm this as a known issue but somehow it worked on my end, leaving me thinking that there is a problem with your tab. For an attempt to resolve this, try to connect the tab to KIES and see if it needs to update any firmware. If it is updated, just do reset the device just an attempt to fix it. A lot of online resources say they haven't resolved this by factory reset but I still suggest you try this including checking the firmware. Just make sure backing the data first on your computer before any resets.

I hope the information given helps. Let me know what happens then so we could check on what needs to be done if it doesn't work. I'm sorry again you're having this issue on your new Galaxy tab 2.

Regards,

Abe
