Hi again and thank you for your patience. I have 2 symptoms here including the affected TV component which properly describe the problem that you're having.

A. The TV menu is also affected by the patterns / distortions: When this happens the problem is that the DMD board is malfunctioning.

alt text

B. The TV menu is not affected by the patterns / distortions: If the menu displays correctly then the problem is in the source of the video signal (analog or digital board). Without the connections check the Menu. If the problem is always present then the digital board is the cause, but if this issue just occurs when an analog source is selected then you need a new analog board.

Please try to check which symptoms the Tv shows when you press the Menu?

Let me know which one on the 2 symtomps above matches your tvs problem.

The distortion happens with no connections while the menu function is displayed . Looks like its the digital board. Is this a repair I may can handle and do you think it is worth repairing?

Thats what Im also thinking. The first thing that we need to do is to check if there are parts available. Using a tester you can check the capacitors for any problems capacitors can be purchased at electronic shops however it doesnt rest on the capacitors alone. There is 70-80% the issue only is resolved by replacing the entire board itself since some components may not be available for a separate purchase. Let me check for the part numbers and each board assembly so well have an idea. Be right back.

Hi again, I tried to check if there are seperate components for the Digital/Analog board however it is only available as a single part. Here are the details:

Samsung BP95-00444B Signal Board

alt text

Part Type:

  • Signal Board
  • HDMI Input
  • A/V Board
  • VGA Input
  • S Video Input
  • Digital Audio Output

Part Number: BP95-00444B

Part Usage: Plasma

MFR Part Number 1: Samsung BP95-00444B

Available and in stock $56.95

I also think that i would be better to just replace the board rather than checking all the pieces to get the bad components.

IMPORTANT: Now regarding the picture above, if somehow there is a similarity with your tv screen issue. There might be a chance that the DMD board could also gone bad.

the problem is the Samsung BP94-02268A DMD Board Part Number: BP94-02268Ais currently out of stock however the alternatives are:

  1. Check the capacitors on the DMD board.
  2. There is also a chance that the DLP Chip has gone bad

Samsung 4719-001960 DLP Chip

Part Number: 4719-001960

In stock $59.24

Hi again just in case you need a service manual which is very important in disassembling a TV and replacing parts. I found one available at Samsung Parts:

SM-HLS5679W SERVICE MANUAL

I also did some research and found it would be around $500 to have it repaired. Doing this repair yourself would only cost for around $150.

Another link from someone who fixed his DLP (not the same nodel) but I figured this might help and give you ideas.

I think youre all set. I hope the additional information provided helps. Please kindly show your appreciation for my efforts in providing you assistance by clicking the green Accept Answer button right below my first response. Thank you so much.

First thing to do:

Make sure that ALL boards would be tested to determine which board has problems.

TIP: Using the service manual as a guide would help much.

Steps:

  1. Test the boards. You can also have a local technician check the boards so that he could confirm which board has a problem just in case you need help in testing the boards.

  2. If Digital board, Signal board has an issue, replace the board. Which I have checked online and found that it is still available. You can check my previous replies above to check on the link.

  3. If DMD board has the issue but replacement isn't available online, here are some options:

    • List down the exact part numbers/details of the affected parts. Write down the details of the parts that needs replacing so it would be easier to find and purchase.
    • Once the list has been made, you can visit the electronic shop and show the list to a sales person to assist you get the exact parts from the list you have created.
    • If DLP Chip is one of the broken parts on the list, there is a possibility it wont be available on your local electronic store but you can order the item online provided on the link on my previous replies above.

Hope these suggestions will help and good luck with the repairs and thank you so much for getting in touch with us.
